Last night the premiere of the Ailey Spring Gala uplifted viewers around the world during a free broadcast celebrating Hope, Promise and the Future with performances from Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and gifted young dancers from The Ailey School.

Presenting a special homage to our nation's capital, Washington, D.C., appearances will include guest of honor Smithsonian Secretary Lonnie G. Bunch III, Congressman James E. Clyburn and Former First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama along with performances from Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and gifted young dancers from The Ailey School.

The New-York Historical Society held their annual History Makers Gala on November 6 at 583 Park in New York. This year's honorees included New-York Historical Trustee Dr. H.M. Agnes Hsu-Tang, who received the New-York Historical Society Medal of Merit for Public Engagement; Harry Potter editor Arthur A. Levine, who received the New-York Historical Society Distinguished Service Award; and world-renowned entertainer and celebrated Harry Potter audiobook voice actor Jim Dale, who received the 2018 History Makers Award in recognition of the exhibition Harry Potter: A History of Magic, now on view at New-York Historical.

The New York Philharmonic has announced updates to its 2017-18 season.

The New York Philharmonic is celebrating Star Wars Day by giving Star Wars fans who come to the David Geffen Hall Box Office early access to tickets for the Star Wars Film Concert Series on May 4, 2017, at 10:00 a.m., before tickets go on sale widely to the public online at noon. Fans who arrive by 9:30 a.m. will be entered in a raffle to win a pair of free tickets to the Star Wars concert of their choice. Three winners will be announced at 10:00 a.m. The first 20 Star Wars fans to arrive in costume will receive official Star Wars merchandise and collectible vinyl. In addition, fans waiting in line will be entertained by members of the New York Philharmonic's brass section performing music from the Star Wars movies, and will have a chance to meet R2D2, Kylo Ren, stormtroopers, and other Star Wars characters from costumed fan groups. Those planning to attend are encouraged to spread the word on social media using #nypstarwars.

The New York Philharmonic will present the New York Premiere of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial in Concert, with the Orchestra performing John Williams's Academy Award®–winning score live to the complete film, conducted by David Newman, Friday, May 12, 2017, at 7:00 p.m.; Saturday, May 13 at 1:00 p.m.; and Saturday, May 13 at 7:00 p.m.

Fittingly, ODETTA, which celebrates the legendary singer known as the "voice of the Civil Rights Movement." premiered on National Human Rights Day. Fans can catch ODETTA seven more times this season: Dec 13 Mat, 14 eve, 18 eve, 20 eve, 26, 28 eve, 31 mat.
