2017 Theatre in the Park Season Auditions set for March 4 & 5

at the new Arts and Heritage Center

There’s no business like show business…so come audition to be part of the fun for the 2017 season of

musicals at Theatre in the Park (TTIP)!

Auditions for the 48th summer season for (TTIP) will take place Saturday and Sunday, March 4 and 5, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the new Johnson County Arts and Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf Ave., in Overland Park. Those auditioning may select and reserve a time slot in advance beginning Feb. 18 on the theatre’s web site, www.theatreinthepark.org.

The TTIP season features a total of six musicals, including GREASE, the premiere production at the new Arts & Heritage Center. The remaining five musicals include three TTIP premieres and a co-production with The White Theatre at The Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City (The J).

The musicals and their performance dates are:

  • GREASE!- (indoors-at the new Arts & Heritage Center) dates TBA; directed by Tim Bair
  • SPAMALOT - June 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, & 10*; directed by Barb Nichols
  • CRAZY FOR YOU – June 16, 17, 18, 21, 22, 23 & 24*; directed by Kevin Bogan
  • DISNEY’S CAMP ROCK – June 30, July 1, 2, 5, 6, 7 & 8*; directed by Mark Swezey
  • BACK TO THE 80S – July 14, 15, 16, 19, 20, 21 & 22*; Director: TBA
  • DISNEY’S BEAUTY AND THE BEAST - TTIP dates: July 28, 29, 30 Aug. 2, 3, 4 & 5*; The J’s White Theatre dates: July 8, 13, 15, 20 & 22 at 7:30 p.m. July 9, 16 & 23 at 2 p.m.; directed by Steven Eubank

*Interpreted performance for the hearing impaired.

Showtime for all 2017 TTIP productions is 8:30 p.m.

AUDITION DETAILS

To select a time slot for TTIP auditions, go to http://www.theatreinthepark.org and complete the online registration form. Once the form has been completed, audition numbers will automatically be assigned.

Auditionees should arrive 30 minutes before their scheduled time, check in at the registration table and have their photo taken. The entire audition process should be completed in about 2 hours.

Walk-in auditions will be permitted on Sunday, March 5. Walk-in auditionees may register at 3 p.m. and are guaranteed to be seen that afternoon.

Everyone who auditions must complete the online registration process and bring 11 copies of the completed form with them to auditions.

All those auditioning should prepare no more than 16 measures of a song of their choice (please do not sing a song from one of TTIP’s 2017 shows). Song choice should be something that shows of your voice, and if desired, is in the style of the show/s for which you are auditioning. An accompanist will be provided but auditionees MUST bring sheet music in the proper key. Auditionees are not required to participate in the dance audition but are encouraged to do so.

Those unable to attend the auditions in person may submit a video audition BY NOON ON SUNDAY, MARCH 5.

Callbacks are by invitation only and will be the week of March 6. A list of those performers called back will be posted online at
www.theatreinthepark.org on Monday, March 6 by Noon. TTIP cast lists will be posted on line before midnight on Sunday, March 12.

Katie.Baergen@jocogov.org indicating the instrument you play, what shows you are interested in and attach a resume.

MORE FUN UNDER THE STARS

MOVIES IN THE PARK will return for only one buck – it’s like a drive-in movie, only better! The full line up can be found at
www.theatreinthepark.org beginning, June 1. Gates open at 7:30 p.m. with movies starting at 8:30-8:45 p.m., depending on sunset.

Good news on tickets! TTIP is holding the line on prices for the 2017 season with general admission only $8, youth $6, and children three and under may attend for free (but require a ticket for entrance). Tickets may be purchased online at
www.theatreinthepark.org or at the theatre box office the nights of performance. Patrons may also take advantage of “Thrifty Thursdays” and save 20 percent off tickets on any Thursday evening performance.

The Theatre in the Park is located in Shawnee Mission Park at 7710 Renner Road, in Shawnee, KS, and is a program of the Johnson County Park & Recreation District.
