Lee Street Theatre in Salisbury, NC announces
open auditions for the world premiere of
The Race

The Race is the story of an African-American criminal defense attorney
who is assigned to represent a White Supremacist Death Row Inmate
falsely accused & convicted of murder. The attorney is the White
Supremacists’ last hope for a clemency appeal before the inmate is
scheduled to die by lethal injection at 12:00 on Christmas Eve
morning.

This production will be performed as a staged reading and will be the
first ever public performance.

Lee Street Theatre is casting the following roles:

Cory L. Williams, Esq. - African-American capital defense attorney,
late thirties to late forties.

Lavell Anderson, Death Row Inmate - White. Same general age as
attorney Williams. Falsely accused of murdering an African-American
child.

Sgt. Murdock, Correction Officer – Late 50’s to early 60’s. Male or female

Albert Vernon (Vern) McCluskey, Jr. – White male. 30 – 40 years of
age. Career criminal, racist by nature.

African-American Female Convenience Store Clerk – 60-70 year old store employee.

John Purcell – Managing Partner, Hamilton Banks Mabry and Valentine
LLP. Between 57-60 years old.

Police Officers/Medical Personnel/others – Two White Officers/One
male, one female. One Hispanic officer Male or Female.


African-American Male Teenager – 15-17 year old convenience store shopper.

Auditions: Auditions will be held on March 4 from 7-9pm. Auditions
will be held at Looking Glass Artist Center | 405 N Lee Street |
Salisbury, NC 28144.

Performers will be offered a small stipend.

Process: Rehearsals will start March 18. The one night only public
performance will be March 22 at 7:30pm.
