Auditions for AIDS History Play, The Normal Heart, at the Mendocino Theatre Company
The Mendocino Theatre Company announces auditions for Larry Kramer’s gripping play,The Normal Heart. This important and moving drama will be directed by MTC Producing Director Felicia Freitas.
Auditions will be held May 11th and 12th at 6:30 p.m. at the Mendocino Theatre Company, 45200 Little Lake St., Mendocino. The Normal Heart will begin rehearsals in June, and performs July 30th through September 6th, 2015.
Taking place between 1981 and 1984, The Normal Heart tells the incredible true story of the early days of the AIDS epidemic. Ned Weeks, the playwright’s autobiographical protagonist, is labeled radical, extreme, prudish, and self hating by both friends and enemies alike. But when a mysterious virus, then coined ‘gay cancer’, begins rapidly taking the lives of young men, this opinionated, unyielding, and impassioned gay activist finds himself racing the clock for funding, research, and recognition.
Both political and personal, Kramer’s play premiered in New York in 1985. As the first generation to never know a world without AIDS reaches maturity, The Normal Heart has now taken its cultural place as an important historical work in the canon of gay literature.
Auditions will consist of reading from sides. The following roles are open for audition:

*The roles of Tommy Boatwright and Dr. Emma Brookner have been precast and will not be available to audition. At this time, there are no female roles available for casting. Some available roles may be double cast.
