Becca and Howie Corbett have everything a family would want until a life-shattering accident turns their world upside down and leaves the couple drifting perilously apart. Rabbit Hole charts their bittersweet search for comfort in the darkest of places and for a path that will lead them back into the light of day. It won author David Lindsay-Abaire the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for a Dramatic Play.

Becca (late 30’s or early 40’s, 621 speeches) Wife to Howie. Educated, well adjusted – losing Danny has completely tested her value system. Feels she’s own her own to find a way forward.

Izzy (early 30’s, 246 speeches) Becca’s younger sister. Has led more of a “wild child” life, but does look to Becca for validation. Her recent pregnancy has created an awkward situation with Becca.

Howie (late 30’s or early 40’s, 356 speeches) Husband to Becca. He is equally devastated by Danny’s death, but handles it differently than Becca. Feels he needs to create a person to blame.

Nat (early to mid 60’s, 167 speeches) Mother to Becca and Izzy. Has a penchant for saying too much at the wrong time. She also carries grief for her son Arthur, a dope addict who took his own life years ago.

Jason (17 years old, 89 speeches) The young man whose car killed Danny by accident. Desperately wants to make contact with Becca and Howie to apologize. Young in age but mature in many ways.

Director Note: These characters are all dealing differently with the same tragedy, yet are all trying to come to terms with each other and move forward in their lives. It explores that there is no “right way” to deal with the death of a loved one. It will demand a high level of trust between actors to allow the true emotion of the relationships to emerge. Don’t be afraid of the speech counts as many are brief responses in flowing dialogue.

ABOUT THE FARMINGTON PLAYERS:

You can find the Farmington Players at
www.farmingtonplayers.org and also on Facebook. The Barn began as an off-shoot of the American Association of University Women. Their first production, The Torchbearers, was performed at a local church. After performing in various city and educational locations, the Farmington Players moved into an old dairy barn located on the site of their present facility on West Twelve Mile Road.

Initially, productions were staged downstairs on a dirt floor. Over the years, improvements to the original Barn transformed it into a more finished space, with the theater itself eventually moving upstairs into a traditional and finished setting.

Since 1953, the Farmington Players have staged more than 190 different musicals, dramas, mysteries and comedies, all as a community theater with 100% volunteer membership.

People from Farmington, Farmington Hills and beyond have come to recognize the group as a true community resource. Since the completion of its state-of-the-art facility in 2003, the Farmington Players Barn Theater has expanded its mission, serving as the site for city-sponsored events such as youth theater camps in the summer, concerts with groups as varied as Blackthorn and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and as a meeting place for various groups.

The Farmington Players have been saving money over the years to enhance the onstage experience at The Barn. In November, 2009 they installed a new rigging system in the vast fly space. Show Directors are thrilled to finally have the ability to fly in flats and use drops to set scenes in a matter of seconds.
