The Middlebury Community Players are holding open auditions for their fall production of the beloved musical Oliver! With music, book, and lyrics by Lionel Bart,Oliver! is an energetic and poignant show based on the Charles Dickens’ novel “Oliver Twist.” There will be a large cast of approximately 35-45 adults and children. It will be produced at Middlebury’s Town Hall Theater November 6-9 and November 13-16, 2014.
Auditions for children will be on Thursday May 29 from 5:00 – 9:00 pm, with callbacks Saturday May 31 at 10:00 am. Adult auditions take place on Monday andTuesday June 2 & 3 from 7:00 -10:00 pm, with callbacks if needed on June 4. All auditions will be held at the Mary Hogan School, 201 Mary Hogan Drive, in Middlebury (off Route 7).
According to the show’s director, Catherine Palmer, “Audition requirements are enthusiasm, energy, and a willingness to show your best self!” The audition songs will be selected from the show, and will be taught before individual auditions. Participants should arrive at Mary Hogan School at the audition start time, complete a registration form, have their picture taken, and then join either the singing or dancing workshop where the audition material will be taught. Each workshop will be twenty minutes long.
To be eligible for the production, children must turn age 8 by September 1, 2014. Children interested in a lead or solo part must sing and read alone. All dance auditions will be in groups. Children interested only in a chorus role (orphan or pickpocket) may sing in small groups after demonstrating their vocal range.
Adult auditions will follow a similar format, but all adults should be prepared to sing alone.

Cathy Palmer directs the production, with music direction by Susanne Peck, and choreography by Kendra Gratton. Producer is Algy Layden and Stage Managers are Meg Baker and Amanda Cheever. Other staff includes Assistant Director Kristen Ginsburg, Assistant Producer Mary Longey, Costume Designer Robin Huestis, Set Designer Adam Ginsburg, and Rehearsal Pianist Carina Ellis.
