2017 Auditions The Baltimore Shakespeare Factory is pleased to announce auditions for our 2017 season. We will be auditioning for the first three shows in our season; all roles are open, and we’d like to see all ages and types; gender is not a factor. No experience with acting Shakespeare is required. Below is a brief overview of each show and its rehearsal and performance schedule. Actors will receive a stipend of $150. When Auditions Will Be Held First round of auditions will be held on Sunday, December 4, 2016 from 5 pm – 9 pm and Monday, December 5, 2016 from 6 pm – 10 pm. Call backs will be held on Sunday, December 11, 2016 from 5 pm – 9 pm and Monday, December 12, 2016 from 6 pm – 10 pm. PLEASE NOTE: If you have performed with BSF in a show, you are only required to schedule an audition slot for the week of call backs. Please email Managing Director April Forrer to schedule an audition: april.forrer@theshakespearefactory.com What We Are Auditioning For Antony & Cleopatra • Directed by Tom Delise, Founding Artistic Director of Baltimore Shakespeare Factory • This will be the third of our annual original pronunciation (OP) productions. Last year we produced The Winter’s Tale, and the year before that The Merchant of Venice • Text work weekend: Saturday, January 14 and Sunday, January 15 (10-5 pm) • Rehearsals will begin February 4th and most rehearsals will be held on Tuesdays (7-10 pm), Thursdays (7-10 pm), and Saturdays (10-4) • Tech week is Monday, March 27 through Thursday, March 30 • Performances are at St. Mary’s (March 31-April 2, April 7-9, April 14-16, and April 21-23). There is one student matinee on Wednesday, April 5 – curtain for this show is 10 a.m. There may be one show at Boordy Vineyards after the show has closed at St. Mary’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream • Directed by BSF Founding Artistic Director Tom Delise • Text work weekend: Saturday, April 29th and Sunday, April 30th (10 a.m. – 5 pm) • Rehearsals will begin May 20 and rehearsals will be held Tuesdays (7-10 pm), Thursdays (7-10 pm), and Saturdays (10-4). A few Sundays will be in lieu of Saturday rehearsals • Tech week is Monday, July 3rd through Thursday, July 6th • Performances: outdoors in the meadow at the Evergreen Museum and Library (9 shows – July 7-9, July 14-16, July 21-23), at St. Mary’s (July 28-30) and at Boordy Vineyards (August 11) Love’s Labors Lost • Directed by BSF Associate Artistic Director Chris Cotterman • Text work weekend: Saturday, May 13 and Sunday, May 14 from 10 a.m. – 5 pm • Rehearsals will begin June 10th and rehearsals will be held on Mondays (7-10 pm), Wednesdays (7-10 pm), and Saturdays (10-4). A few Sundays will be in lieu of Saturday rehearsals. • Tech week is Monday, July 24 through Thursday, July 27 • Performances: outdoors in the meadow at the Evergreen Museum and Library (9 shows – July 28-30, August 4-6, August 11-12), at St. Mary’s (3 shows – August 18-20), and at Boordy Vineyards (2 shows – August 25 and September 1) Auditions for the fourth play in our season, The Sea Voyage, by John Fletcher and Philip will be held at a later date in the spring. This play is part of our Shakespeare Contemporaries Series, and was written by John Fletcher and Philip Massinger. It will be directed by Ann Turiano and perform in November and December of 2017. You will be given more information about this show when you arrive for auditions. Where Auditions Will Be Held St. Mary’s Outreach Center 3900 Roland Ave Baltimore, MD 21211 Look for the sign on the building marking the entrance. There is a parking lot next to the building, but be careful to park only in spots on the church side of the lot; DO NOT park in numbered/reserved spots on the tower side of the lot: you WILL be towed. Free parking is also available on Roland Avenue. What to Bring • 1 copy of your headshot/resume • 1 completed copy of the audition form (the form is available on our website) • Conflicts you may have (please note that no conflicts are allowed for tech week) • Any instruments you play; be prepared to play 15-30 seconds of any selection you are familiar with (playing an instrument is optional) What to Expect • you will NOT be expected to do a monologue • you will be asked to work collaboratively with a group of actors to produce a scene – sides to be used are posted on our website • you will be asked to sing (optional – 15 seconds of song of your choice) • you will be asked to play a musical instrument (optional – short piece of your choice) Who We Are Looking For • We want actors who are willing to be a member of an ensemble -- we want to remove the "drama" from drama • We love to see actors make BIG, BOLD choices • We want actors who LOVE THE LANGUAGE and relish speaking it • We want actors who are willing to do ALL the necessary text work required by this company • We love actors who are comfortable making strong eye contact with our audiences and interacting with them when it is appropriate -- so please don't hesitate to make eye contact with the auditors during the auditions if your text calls for it • We want actors who are dependable, responsible, and generous – actors who realize the good of the many outweigh the good of the few, or the one (thank you, Mr. Spock) • We want actors who are on time to rehearsals and calls and off-book when requested • We want actors who are willing to learn and grow Who We Are • We are dedicated to producing the works of Shakespeare and his contemporaries by employing, as closely as possible, the staging conditions used by Shakespeare and his contemporaries – see below for more information about these staging conditions • We glorify the concept of being an ensemble who works cooperatively together to achieve our artistic philosophy • We do NOT produce shows that involve a "notion" or a "concept" • We are EXTREMELY DEDICATED TO THE TEXT -- we work hard on paraphrasing, scansion, analysis of rhetoric, and other text concepts which we believe enables us to produce shows of excellent clarity (don’t worry, we will help you to develop these skills if you are not familiar with this type of work).
