American Buffalo - Newnan Theatre Company
Auditions will take place Monday and Tuesday, March 9 and 10, at 7pm, on the Black Box Stage. No audition appointments are necessary, and interested auditioners may attend any of the audition dates. This show will be directed by Justin Jessel. The audition will consist of cold readings, improvisation, and direction. A prepared intense, dramatic monologue is a big plus, but not required. American Buffalo is a drama about small, petty men trying to plan a simple heist. It is about social order and inferiority. And most importantly, it is about communication and language, and how poor use of both can end up hurting us. Don, the owner of a junk shop, and his errand boy Bobby, plan to steal a coin from a collector; a mutual acquaintance and poker buddy (Teach) weasels his way in. Personal frustrations, secret plans, and social inferiority plague all their goals, though. MATURE CONTENT Newnan Theatre Company is casting in this production at this time the role of Teach – Teach (Male, 25 to 50, any race) – a frustrated con man and know-it-all with a serious chip on his shoulder. The world is out to get him, and he is owed a chance to get everything that has been taken from him back. He has an inferiority complex and a penchant for very strong language. Smart yet still ignorant, forceful and yet still the bottom of the social totem pole in his group. Newnan Theatre Company does not charge production fees of any kind to any performer to take part in our productions. If you have any questions about these auditions or the production, please email NTC’s Artistic Director, Tony Daniel, at artistic-director@newnantheatre.org
