“Annie” – The Hit Broadway Musical

FARMINGTON, HILLS, Mich. July 1, 2013



The Farmington Players are holding auditions the week of July 24th for the sensational Broadway musical “Annie,” directed by Amy Lauter & Terie Spencer. There are 4 key dates as follows: Appointments only for audition dates, not for the workshop date.





Audition Dates



Wednesday, July 24th – Parent Information Meeting & Youth Workshop:



6:30-9:00 pm - not mandatory/but recommended.





Thursday, July 25th – Audition for Teens 16-18 & Adults: 7-10pm, by appointment.





Saturday, July 27th – Children 6-15 years old : 9am – 5pm by appointment

Rehearsals



Orphans & Annie Only (possibly Miss Hannigan at times):



Saturdays, August 3 – September 28: 9am-12pm (no rehearsal Labor Day weekend).



Full Cast rehearsals begin the week of September 15, usually 6:30 - 9:30 pm.



Some Saturday or Sunday rehearsals somewhere between 9am-4pm (not the whole time).



Mandatory Rehearsals: ALL DAY TECH – Saturday 12/7/13. Full Runs 12/9-12/11.





Please bring a list of all conflicts to auditions.





Performances



Fridays at 8 pm, Saturdays at 2 pm and 8 pm, Sundays at 2 pm



December 13, 14, 15, 20, 21, 22, 27, 28, 29





Parental Expectations



Please make sure your child is prepared for the audition. This does not mean having an entire monologue or song memorized. We are looking instead for comfort with the piece.





Children will be photographed. And parents must remain in the waiting area during auditions.





Parent/guardians of children cast in Annie will be expected to volunteer as chaperones and general helpers during rehearsals and performances. A schedule will be developed after casting is completed. This cooperation is a must to ensure a positive and safe experience for your children.



Character Descriptions



(Actors must be able to portray the ages listed)



Annie: 11 years old. Must be able to sing, act, and dance.



Energetic, optimistic orphan who never gives up hope that better days are ahead.



Voice: Low A to High F. May be required to dye hair.



This role MAY be double cast, at the discretion of the directors.



Audition song: “Maybe” measures 28-52. Callback song: “Tomorrow” 50 - the end.





The Orphans: Must be able to sing, act, and dance. Voice Range: Low A to High F. Audition songs: “Hard Knock Life” measures 26-45. May also be asked to sing “Never Fully Dressed Reprise” measures 61 through 82. Also, “New Deal for Christmas.”





The Named Orphans (Girls: speaking parts and possibly solo singing lines)



Molly: Age 6, The youngest orphan.



Kate: 7-8 Years old, The second to youngest orphan.



Tessie: 9-11, The crybaby of the orphanage.



Pepper: 11-14, The toughest girl in the orphanage.



July: 12-14, The quietest girl in the orphanage.



Duffy: 13-15, The oldest girl in the orphanage.





Orphan Chorus: 4-6 additional orphans may be cast. Girls ages 7-14. Must be able to sing, dance and act. Non-speaking but will appear in the orphan scenes and sing and dance in the orphan songs.





Girls/Boys Chorus: Ages 6-15, Non-speaking. Must be able to sing and act. Chorus members with special dance abilities may be featured. Appear in two scenes, as shantytown dwellers and as New Yorkers in Times Square. Songs: “We’d Like to Thank You Herbert Hoover” and “NYC.”



Audition Song: Boys- “NYC” measures 58 through 85. Sing all lines even though they are marked for specific characters. Girls- If you audition for an orphan role (“Hard Knock Life”), you will also be considered for Boys/Girls Chorus unless you request otherwise. You may sing “NYC” measures 58 through 85 if you are auditioning for Boys/Girls chorus only.



Oliver Warbucks: 40-65. A powerful billionaire, always has his mind on business, but has a kind heart and is looking for someone to love. Songs: “Why Should I Change a Thing,” “Something Was Missing” and “I Don’t Need Anything But You”. Vocal Range: Baritone to a high F. Must be able to sing and act. The role involves a small amount of dance. May be required to SHAVE head.



Audition Song: “Something Was Missing*” measures 50 through the end. *Option to choose from two keys.





Grace Farrell: 25-35. Loyal and intelligent private secretary to Oliver Warbucks. She brings Annie and Warbucks together. Songs: “I think I’m Gonna Like It Here”, “NYC”, “You Won’t Be an Orphan For Long” and “I Don’t Need Anything But You”. Vocal Range: Soprano to high G. Must be able to sing, act and dance.



Audition Song: “I Think I’m Gonna Like It Here” measures 64 through 88 sing all lines.





Miss Hannigan: 35-60, Desperate and unhappy with her lot in life, she is the alcoholic orphanage matron who is Annie’s nemesis. Sings “Little Girls” and “Easy Street”. Vocal Range: Alto A to D. Must be able to sing, dance and act.



Audition Song: “Little Girls” measure 70 –end.





Lily St. Regis: 25-35, Shady, floozy girlfriend of Rooster. Sings “Easy Street”. Vocal Range: Soprano up to a high G Must be able to sing, act, and dance.



Audition Song: “Easy Street” measures 1 through 32 (entire section)





Rooster: 35-50. Miss Hannigan’s greedy and dishonest brother. Sings “Easy Street” Vocal Range: Tenor to high G. Must be able to sing, act, and dance.



Audition Song: “Easy Street” measures 2 through 32. (Entire Section)





Roosevelt: 40-65, The U.S. President who takes an immediate liking to Annie and her optimism. Must be able to imitate Roosevelt. Sings “Tomorrow Reprise” and “New Deal For Christmas.” (Vocal Range: Baritone).



Audition Song: “Cabinet Tomorrow”, measure 27 –End (Entire Section)





Bert Healy: 30-55, A popular radio announcer. Sings “You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile”. Vocal Range: Tenor to F#. If this role is doubled with chorus, must be able to sing, act, and dance.



Audition Song: “Never Fully Dressed” measures 8 through 31.





Jimmy Johnson: 25-55, a silly radio personality on Bert Healy’s radio show. If this role is doubled with chorus, must be able to sing, act, and dance.





Fred McCracken: 25-55, Puppet wrangler. Uses a dummy on Bert Healy’s radio show. Baritone. If this role is doubled with chorus, must be able to sing, act, and dance.





The Lovely Boylan Sisters: (Connie, Ronnie, Bonnie) 20-50, They sing back up to Bert Healy. Must be able to harmonize. If these roles are doubled with chorus, must be able to sing, act, and dance. Vocal Range: 1 Alto, 1 First Soprano, 1 Second Soprano.



Audition Song: “Never Fully Dressed” measures 52 through 63. Please pick a vocal part.





Star to Be: 18-25. Aspiring actress who sings during “NYC.” Vocal Range: Mezzo-soprano. If this role is doubled with chorus, must be able to sing, act, and dance. Audition Song: “NYC” measures 123 through 157.





Warbucks’ Staff: Songs: “I Think I’m Gonna Like it Here,” “You Won’t Be An Orphan For Long,” “I Don’t Need Anything But You” and “New Deal For Christmas.” Must be able to sing, act and dance. Audition song: “I Think I’m Gonna Like it Here,” measures 89 through 104.





Cecille: 20-40, Maid at Warbucks’ home.



Annette: 20-40, Female. Maid at Warbucks’ home.



Drake: 35-60, Male. Butler at Warbucks’ home.



Mrs Greer: 35-60, Warbucks’ head housekeeper.



Mrs Pugh 35-60, Warbucks’ cook.





Roosevelt’s Cabinet: Men must be able to sing harmony. If these roles are doubled with chorus, must be able to sing, act, and dance. Audition Song: “Cabinet Tomorrow” measures 27 through end.





Perkins: 25-60, Female. Vocal Range: Soprano



Harold Ickes: 25-60, Male.



Hull: 25-60, Male.



Morganthau: 25-60, Male.



Louis Howe: 25-60, Male.



Bundles McCloskey: 25-60,the laundry man who flirts with Miss Hannigan and aids Annie’s attempt to escape. Non-singing role. If this role is doubled with chorus, must be able to sing, act, and dance.





Lt. Ward: 25-60, NYPD officer who is suspicious of Annie. Non-singing role. If this role is doubled with chorus, must be able to sing, act, and dance.





Adult Chorus (including many of the named roles above): Ages 16 and up. Male and Female. Appear in two scenes, as shantytown dwellers and as New Yorkers in Times Square. Must be able to sing, act, and dance. Songs: “We’d Like to Thank You Herbert Hoover” and “NYC.” Some adult chorus members may also appear as servants at Warbucks’ mansion, and will sing and dance in the servants’ numbers.



Audition Song: “NYC” measures 58 through 85 – Sing all lines. (There are also a number of characters with single lines that will be chosen from those who audition for chorus only.)
