An all new, ensemble-created play based on the life and work of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. The tale of The Little Pilot weaves between the fanciful and the factual, as Saint-Exupéry’s literary characters and real-life events blend together to create a visually stunning production featuring aerial silk acrobatics and original visual art projections.
The Little Pilot follows the life of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, one of the 20th Century’s most celebrated literary artists and pioneering aviators, who went missing and presumed dead on an intelligence reconnaissance mission at the tail end of World War II. Part fact, part allegory, the non-linear story begins with Saint-Exupéry’s final flight and winds it’s way through his childhood years, his time in New York City, his military service and his creation of the fanciful worlds of his fictional characters.
The Little Pilot is created and performed by an ensemble that includes Sandbox Theatre ensemble member Evelyn Digirolamo, as well as Christian Bardin, Mark Benzel, Jonathon Dull, Katie Kaufmann, and Patrick Webster.
The Little Pilot is a show of firsts: Sandbox Theatre’s first production with The Southern Theater’s ARTshare program; our first show to incorporate aerial acrobatics; and a first for three of our artists as Evelyn Digirolamoand Kristina Fjellman take on the role of Sandbox Project Leads, and Theo Langason sits in for the first time as Director for the company.
