Milwaukee theater fans are going to have the chance to visit France this summer through the Greendale Community Theatre's production of the world famous musical 'Les Miserables'. The show will run July 25, 26, 27, 28, 31 and August 1, 2 and 3. As many Milwaukee residents are aware, the Greendale Theatre is known for their professional level productions. 'Les Mis' is just the next production in a long line of critically acclaimed theater events.

"When we first started the theatre and were discussing what shows we could do, we mentioned LES MISERABLES as a joke, thinking that we could never do a show that was so huge and epic," said Brian Bzdawka, Greendale Community Theatre's Artistic Director. "Now, for our 10th anniversary show, our little joke is coming true."

Les Miserables is one of those shows that all actors want to be involved in because of the range of skill needed to play the lead roles. Being a triple threat comes in handy when wanting to be cast in this show. Actors will travel near or far for the chance to be in this fantastic show. This rang especially true with the GCT production of 'Les Mis' because it is the local premiere of the popular show. When casting this show, GCT turned to both Wisconsin and Illinois based actors so that they could make sure they had the cream of the crop. This attention to detail is what makes the theater so well renowned.

But to this blogger, one exciting part of this theater production is their emphasis on charity. Each year the GCT does a 'pass the hat' donations drive at the end of each show. This year they have chosen to work with the Hunger Task Force. The GCT works to help show the importance of charity and community awareness at each of their shows. I think that this is something that other theater companies could learn from.
