Writings to ten years of differences, images of Claude Debussy and Karol Szymanoski masks have much in common.
Composed in 1916, Masques op. 34 by Karol Szymanowski is a triptych of pieces strongly influenced by the composer in the Mediterranean travels. It depicts a new impressionist aesthetics, three different tables of a formidable pianistic exuberance. His music, as Szymanowski described himself as "quasi-parodic" pays tribute to Scheherazade, heroine of Tales of Thousand and One Nights, at Tantris Fool, Tristan parody in a German writer Ernest piece Hardt and Don Juan, great legendary seducer. The effort of the composer is to awaken the imagination of the listener showing the complexity of the characters he chose for his plays. Which approximates closely the Impressionist style of Debussy that he met a few years ago, these three pieces inaugurate a program series of music he composed afterwards.
For his part, Claude Debussy wrote the first book Images in 1905 and the second series in 1907. Very satisfied with his work for the first book, Debussy wrote to his publisher Durand in the following terms: "no false vanity, I think these three pieces are held and they will take their place in the piano literature ... Schumann left or right of Chopin ... as you like it. " The evocative titles of these pictures (Reflections in the water, Hommage à Rameau, Motion, Bells through the leaves, and the moon descends on the temple was and gold fish) invite the listener to travel and leave free his imagination.
To close the program, it seemed obvious to combine these two masterpieces of twentieth century music, so it also imaged, by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
