The Revolutionist written by Lauren Gunderson and directed by Melanie MacQueen will be presented at Theatre Forty, May 18- June 18, 2023.
In The Play's the Thing, a playwright named Sandor Turai comes up with a plan to save the engagement between his nephew Albert and an actress named Ilona after Albert overhears a flirtatious conversation between Ilona and Almady, an obnoxious actor (and Ilona's former lover).
The cast of As Good As Gold includes Marie Broderick and Landon Beatty (both recently seen in Theatre 40's production of Taming the Lion), Wendy Hammers, David Westbay, Nicola Victoria Buck, Chance Denman and Michael P. McDonald.
Theatre 40 celebrates its 55th Anniversary season with the world premiere of Marilyn Anderson’s AS GOOD AS GOLD September 16, 2021. Got the chance to chat with David Hunt Stafford, Theatre 40’s artistic and managing director on Theatre 40’s history and plans for the future.
Theatre 40 resumes their pandemic-interrupted production of Jack Rushen’s lauded TAMING THE LION, re-opening live, back onstage July 9, 2021. Melanie MacQueen directs the cast which includes Landon Beatty, Marie Broderick, Kevin Dulude, Jean Mackie, Sean Rose and Jeffrey Winner. Through the electromagnetic waves of the internet, Jack was most gracious to answer a few of my queries from the comfort of his home in Connecticut.
This Spotlight focuses on Melanie MacQueen, an actress and playwright who found her a?oeHome Basea?? directing plays at Theatre 40, who I recently saw in that group's annual production of THE MANOR in which she and her real-life husband, Daniel Leslie, portray married couple Senator Alfred Winston and his long-suffering wife Cora. The pair are so perfectly cast in the roles that no doubt they will continue playing these two characters for as long as the annual production at Greystone Mansion runs! But now she is waiting to find out what happens to her latest directing project, the world premiere of TAMING THE LION which was forced to close after just a few performances in mid-March.
In these crazy, safe-distancing times; I reached out earlier this week to various heads of Los Angeles theatres to see how they and their theatre families are holding up. The replies were amazing in their quickness, numbers and uniform positivity.
Taming the Lion will have it's world premiere engagement at Theatre Forty! It is written by Jack Rushen, directed by Melanie MacQueen and produced by David Hunt Stafford for Theatre Forty.
Taming the Lion is suggested by true events.
