POSITION SUMMARY

This position builds and installs scenic elements based on designs and concepts the scenic designer supplies through models and drawings. They also draft construction drawings to be used by the carpenters to build and install scenic elements. This position spends some time working on the computer in the Tech Office, and some time working down in the theaters and on the shop floor.

This position reports to the Technical Director and works closely alongside the Assistant Technical Director.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Drafting and Carpentry

• Drafting: Working Knowledge of AutoCAD (3D Modeling), 3D Printers, CNC

Routers

• Automation: Drafting plans for incorporating automation into scenic units, as well as

occasional installation and troubleshooting

• Carpentry: Framing, finishing and detail work

• Welding: MIG process, Gas cutting and brazing

• Sculpting: Foam and woodcarving, texture work

• Stitching: Drops, layout, cutting and sewing of fabric

• Rigging: Cable Make-up, maintenance, hanging of scenery, special projects

• Load-in: Installation of scenery, and storage

• Electrical/mechanical: Build and/or repair of general theatre equipment

• Other: Duties as assigned



Collaborate with all staff in the furtherance of CTC’s goal of being an anti-racist/anti-bias theatre that works towards Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

• Encourage and empower everyone to speak out against racist and/or biased workplace practices and policies

• Study topics that lead to a deeper understanding of how white supremacy, racial violence, and systemic racism have shaped American society and how that shapes CTC’s workplace and the lives of CTC employees

• Positively contribute to the ACT One platform, creating a future where our theatre is a home for all people, all families, reflective of our community

Experience

• Demonstrated ability to assist Technical Director in the production of technical drawings

• Demonstrated skill in construction using wood materials, steel products, foams, fiberglass, electricity, fabrics, paints and chemical solvents.

• Demonstrated skill in the use of 3D modeling in AutoCAD

• Working knowledge of 3D printers and CNC routers.

• Working knowledge of scenic automation technology (Creative Conners).

• Working knowledge of radial arm saws, table saws, band saws, cold saws, drill presses, miter boxes, wood lathes, routers, sanders, MIG welding equipment, sewing machines, electrical and pneumatic power hand tools.

• Knowledge of safety best practices, fall protection; OSHA 10 or 30 preferred

COMPENSATION

The minimum starting wage for this position is $23.56 per hour. Benefits include medical, dental and vision insurance; short-term and long-term disability and life insurance; vacation and sick leave; nine paid holidays; and a 403(b)-retirement savings plan.
