Set in the fictional Donegal village of Ballybeg, where Brian Friel set many of his plays including ‘Dancing at Lughnasa’, ‘Molly Sweeney’ tells the story of a contented visually impaired lady who is coerced by her idealistic husband and her down at heels doctor to have a risky operation to have her sight restored only to realise that her contentment has been jeopardised… Far away hills, even if you cannot see them, still always appear to be green!!
Local company, Heads on Stage present this funny, moving and uplifting piece, which is thought of as provoking and poetic, and one of Brian Friel’s finest plays. Heads on Stage will also perform this play as their entry in the Acting Irish International Theatre Festival in Chicago. AIITF was held in axis in 2012.
