Equity actors for roles in Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum's 2023 Season (see breakdown).

Los Angeles-based, principal actors of all races, ethnicities, sexualities, ages, gender identities, and abilities are encouraged to attend.

Principal actors for Theatricum's 2023 (Outdoor Theatre) Summer Repertory Season: Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night's Dream and Macbeth; Queen Margaret's Version of Shakespeare's WAR OF THE ROSES, adapted by Ellen Geer; and A Perfect Ganesh by Terrence McNally. Macbeth, Lady Macbeth, and Queen Elizabeth are cast but looking for strong understudies.

PREPARATION

For your audition, we ask that you prepare up to four minutes of material of two contrasting Shakespeare monologues. Prepare according to your interest in our season. Please bring 2 copies of your headshot and resume.

A Midsummer Night's Dream begins rehearsals April 5th, opens for Theatricum's School Days student matinee program on April 28th, and opens to the public for the repertory season on June 11th.

Macbeth begins rehearsals on April 10th, opens for Theatricum's School Days student matinee program on May 2nd, and opens to the public for the repertory season on June 10th.

Queen Margaret's Version of Shakespeare's WAR OF THE ROSES will begin rehearsals June 2nd and open in repertory on June 24th.

If invited for a callback they will take place at Theatricum March 23-26, 2023. (Rain dates March 23-26, 2023)

Theatricum will be following all COVID safety protocols as designated by Equity and LA County Department of Public Health. All actors will need to show proof of vaccination completion (including booster) or negative test result prior to first rehearsal.

An Equity Monitor will not be provided. The producer will run all aspects of audition.

Equity encourages members to prepare for their audition prior to arriving at the audition venue, to the extent that they can (e.g., get dressed, hair/make-up, etc.) to avoid crowding in bathrooms and dressing rooms.

Please note that this is an outdoor theatre. There is indoor and water access should it become necessary.

Malcolm- Eldest son of Duncan and rebel prince in the conflict against Macbeth.

Macduff- Thane of Fife. A good and honorable man, laid low by Macbeth’s depredations.

Witch/Lady Macduff- Prophesying outcast/ A fiercely outspoken woman, matriarch of the Macduff household.

Hecate- Goddess of Witchcraft, ultimate pronouncer of Macbeth’s doom.

Donalbain- Younger son of Duncan, brother to Malcolm.

Seyton- Serving man to Macbeth, loyal to the end.

Fleance- Son to the murdered Banquo, escapes to fight another day.

Lennox- A young thane caught up in an ever-shifting web of allegiances after Duncan’s murder. Loyal to Scotland above all else. Also plays Sergeant.

Ross- Noble in service to Duncan, then Macbeth, and ultimately to Malcolm. A caring and empathetic cousin to Macduff.

Siward- Veteran English soldier and father to a slain soldier. Leader of a contingent in league with Malcolm, his nephew.

Young Siward- Siward’s son, faithful and true, to an unfortunately early end.

Angus- Thane who takes up arms against Macbeth. Also Servant.

Mentieth- Thane who takes up arms against Macbeth. Also Murderer.

Caithness- Thane who takes up arms against Macbeth. Also Murderer.

QUEEN MARGARET’S VERSION OF SHAKESPEARE’S WAR OF THE ROSES

This production, centered around the life of Margaret of Anjou, is an abridgement of William Shakespeare’s Henry VI pts 1-3, and Richard III. Many actors will play multiple roles across the course of the production’s chronology.

A PERFECT GANESH

Margaret Civil- A tightly coiled WASP-y spring, privately grieving the death of her son and hiding a potential cancer diagnosis. The living embodiment of a stiff upper lip. 40s-50s, white.

Katherine Brynne- A theatrical and adventurous romantic who blames herself for participating in a culture of casual gay-bashing, which ultimately led to the death of her son. Hoping against all hope. 40s-50s, white.

Ganesh- A constantly metamorphosing, elephant-headed god who wears a great many masks and nudges the heroines towards self-acceptance. Multiple guises that Ganesh takes on over the course of the play. Any age, South Asian.

The Man- Multi-role track, various men that Katherine and Margaret encounter on their travels throughout India. Any age, any ethnicity
