Equity actor/singers for various roles in this NYMF production.

Preparation
Prepare a song (uptempo or ballad) from the “Golden Age” of Broadway musicals. 1940’s/ 1950’s… from shows like GUYS& DOLLS, KISS ME, KATE!, ANYTHING GOES, SOUTH PACIFIC. Songs by Gershwins, Cole Porter, Comden & Green, Frank Loesser, Lerner & Loewe are the desired style.

PRINCIPALS:
Nathan
30s-40s, the show’s protagonist. A writer who is ambitious. Once had a hit, but needs a comeback. Cocky but good-humored and kind. Resistant to criticism. (Ability to play piano as character a plus)
Light Baritone – low D to High A
Irma
30s-40s, Drama Critic for The Herald Tribune. Sharp-tongued, brutally honest and powerful. Doesn’t show her feelings openly, and has problems fighting her inner critic but is kind and good at heart. Was once romantically involved with Nathan Wood but broke up because she was too critical of their relationship.
High Alto - low G to High G
Chester Cotillion
40s-60s. Critic for The New York Times. Upper crust Brit, arrogant and the primary antagonist.
Baritone/Bass - Low A to High E
Dahlia
20s-30s, Nathan’s muse and star performer, Lina’s understudy. Has a fling with Nathan, supportive but ambitious and out for herself.
Alto/Belter - Low G to High E
Lina
Soprano, 30s-50s, Nathan’s star and the critics’ darling. A spacey Diva. Has a recent tendency to abandon productions on opening nights.
Soprano - C to High C two octaves
Shakespeare
30s-50s, a delusional English writer who thinks he is indeed, Shakespeare the 16th Century playwright, speaks in Elizabethan English, comedy role.
Baritone - Low E to High G
Bach
20s-50s, a German composer, delusional, Shakespeare’s collaborator. German accent required.
Tenor/ Counter Tenor – Low E to High A
Tony
30s-40s, Nathan’s best friend. He’s Italian-American, has shady dealings with the mob, very godfather-like. Loves doing people favors in return for loyalty.
Baritone – Low C to High F
ENSEMBLE
2 MALE:
20s-30s: To play waiters, reporters, and also minor supporting roles Frank, Will, Angelo, etc. Dance experience required including Jazz and possibly tap.
2 FEMALE:
20s-30s: to play Muses, actresses, reporters, costume designer, etc.
