Breakdown

Seeking:

MEESH
(late 20s to mid 30s, white) The younger sister to Manda. She has struggled most of her life with unsatisfying short-term jobs but still believes she can hit it big somehow. She won't turn down a chance to make a buck, even if a business venture is slightly unethical. Scrappy. Doesn’t let anyone get away with putting on heirs or making her feel small. Come at her and she’ll come at you.

LUIS
(early to late 30s, Latino) A sweet guy who has just started to come into his own as a smalltime lawyer. Smart, helpful, patient. He’s Manda’s old boyfriend and her family has always liked him. They’ve remained friends. He’s perhaps not quite as sure as he thought about his upcoming marriage, and Manda is starting to stir up old feelings.

TRESS
(mid 40s to late 50s, any ethnicity)
Optimistic visionary who sees herself as a savvy businesswoman but is a little too eager to believe what she wants regardless of cold hard facts. Her ability to believe in her own resourcefulness to overcome any obstacle (in other words “denial”) is her greatest asset as well as her biggest failing. She doesn’t like having holes poked in her dreams. She’s good friends with Mom.

ROBBIE / PIZZA GUY
(late 30s, any ethnicity) Robbie is a dude still trying to grab the brass ring of business success. Sees himself as a savvy businessman though in reality he’s kind of that guy who’s not good enough to be dating your sister. He doubles as the Pizza Guy who was laid off from a better job not long ago and is now stuck delivering pizzas at an age when that is just embarrassing.

The following roles have been CAST.
Actors may be considered for possible replacements if needed:

MOM
ROLE CAST.
(late 50s to mid 60s; white) She's deceptively strong and tough despite often appearing flighty and scattered. She is obsessed with Western stories and comports herself at times a bit like a modern-day pioneer even as her essentials are crumbling around her. Genuinely likes people and wants to support them and their dreams even if those dreams are impossible. (This role is cast.)

MANDA
ROLE CAST.
(mid to late 30s, white) Mom’s oldest daughter. Grew up middle class, moved away from California, and has created a good life for herself in Chicago. Believes she'll have a huge house one day with all the fixings. She’s the responsible one in her family, and she can be judgmental of her mother and sister but is blind to her own shaky grasp of finances. She spends more time fixing other people’s problems than her own. (This role is cast.)
