YOUNG ANTON
(Male early 20s). Dashing young man of Brachen who seduces (and then abandons) Young Claire. Must resemble Anton (played by Roger Rees). Strong singer/dancer. Tenor (C to Ab)
OTTILE:
(Female 20-30s). The daughter of Anton and Matilde, who quickly gets caught up in the quest for social mobility. Soprano (B to A)
MATILDE:
(Female 60+). The original owner of the town general store, who gets caught up in the town’s frenzy of buying expensive items on credit. The wife of Anton and mother of Ottilie and Karl. Mezzo Soprano (B to F)
KARL:
(Male 20-30s). The son of Anton and Matilde, who quickly gets caught up in the quest for social mobility. Bari-Tenor (B to F#)
