There will be a “Movement” Audition at Call Backs on Sept. 17 for the roles of Little Marie, Penny Wanapacker and Ensemble. Call Back times will be given on the 15th and 16th

Breakdown

PREPARATION INSTRUCTIONS:

Singers/Actors
•Please prepare one vocal selection, approximately 32 bars in length, upbeat 20’s or 30’s Broadway or Tin Pan Alley and a one to two minute personal story in your best Philly accent

Singers/Actors/Actors-Singers who play an Instrument
•Please prepare one musical selection on your instrument (Accordion, Banjo, Saxophone, Clarinet, Portable Xylophone) and one vocal selection, each approximately 32 bars in length, upbeat 20’s or 30’s Mummers, Broadway or Tin Pan Alley and a one to two minute personal story in your best Philly accent

PRINCIPAL ROLES:
(also looking for performers who can play any of the following instruments: Accordion, Banjo, Saxophone, Clarinet, Portable Xylophone)

Banjo Eddie
Captain of the Dock Street Troubadours/Narrator. Blue collar dock worker. Friendly, optimistic and very much in love with his wife and being a mummer.

Big Marie
His wife. A larger than life personality who is practical, outspoken. Overflowing with Philadelphia style wisdom. She wants to be a grandmother more than anything.

Little Marie
Their daughter (early 20’s - tap dancing required). Vivacious and strong willed. A modern girl (flapper) who knows her own mind and aspires to be more. Inquisitive, charming, fun loving and clever. She has a secretarial job and is proud to be doing something different.

Mr. Woodrow Waterhouse
Little Marie’s Boss. Buttoned up old school W.A.S.P. Appointed by the Mayor. More interested in perfecting his golf game than anything else. Faithful to the Mayor but maybe not so much to his wife. Also an after hours “patron of the arts”

Penny Wanapacker
Tough as nails show girl. Dances at the Trocadero Theater (good Mover with some acrobatic skills). She uses what she’s got to get what she wants. Very calculating albeit not very good at math. Her goal is to be a Mayor’s wife.

Queen Marie
Queen of Romania. A mature worldly figure who exudes an aura of grace, charm and beauty. Enjoys her royal duties and is always up for a party. Approachable and warm. A great appetite for people and adventure.

Count Frederick
The Queen’s third nephew from the right twice removed. Still single and looking for the right girl. Not at all interested in royal life. He plays the accordion. He collects foreign accents for a living.

ENSEMBLE

Officer Bud
A mummer. He is in charge of designing the costumes for the club. On stage musician. a Police Officer by day.

AL
A mummer and a professional musician. He is in charge of the music department for the club. Currently experiencing creative block.

Moon
A mummer and in charge of inventory. A fighter. Always has a black eye. (actor plays Count Frederick.)

Peg McShannahannahan
40‘s. Gravel voiced neighbor lady. She smokes. She’s pregnant. She doesn’t have an “indoor voice”.

Kitty Fishblatt
40‘s. Neighbor lady. Speaks very deliberately. Overly sympathetic and empathetic.

(ADDITIONAL ENSEMBLE ROLES)
Telephone operators, Hotel employees, Party Guests, Royal Entourage. Onstage Musicians: Accordion, a few banjos, saxophone, clarinet and portable xylophone. In the orchestra pit would be thePiano/synth, percussion and any additional brass. These two musical realms combine under one conductor.
