Breakdown

Patriarch Max has died, leaving behind two sons, Brett and Alec, and a lover, Vivi. All three reunite for one evening in Vivi’s New York apartment. Secrets, passions and ghosts of the past emerge for this trio as each of them faces an uncertain future..

seeking:

ALEC:
Late 30s-early 40s. Jewish. Married with a daughter. Intelligent, verbal, opinionated. Should be in the workaday prime of his life, but he has hit a crossroads and is seeking answers in places he didn’t expect. This is unraveling his life and rendering him self-conscious and defensive.

BRETT:
Late 30s-early 40s. Jewish. Alec’s reclusive brother. Melancholy, thoughtful, clever. Not really cynical, just at odds with the world. He has retreated from ordinary life to an unhealthy degree.

VIVI:
Late 50s-mid 60s. Alec & Brett’s father’s former lover. An elegant woman who has retained her sex appeal. Eccentric, provocative and whip-smart. Talks a blue streak and is full of opinions, but is actually quite grounded, despite her flash and wit. Not Jewish.

MEREDITH:
Late 30s-early 40s. Alec’s wife. A convert to Judaism. Controlled, polite, trying to making the best of a bad situation. Defends herself with irony. Cameo role.

DANIEL:
[role has been CAST] 30s. A young rabbi. Kind and comfortable in his skin. Has contemplated life’s big questions and is at ease with the answers (or lack thereof) he’s found. Until now.
