Breakdown

BACKROUND/SUMMARY:
Investigative journalist plots the murder of the man who raped him when he was seven years old. After 25 years of burying the past, David can no longer remain silent when he learns that the man who destroyed his childhood has moved into his new neighborhood. With ties to the leader of an Arizona gang and other elicit connections through his job, David meticulously plans the demise of the Bogeyman.

STALKING THE BOGEYMAN is based on the true story by David Holthouse who is a journalist now living in Alaska. His story first appeared in Denver’s weekly newspaper, Westword, in 2004. In 2011, the story was featured again in WBEZ’s This American Life. After the article originally appeared in print, the Bogeyman retained legal representation and, as reported in USA Today, the Bogeyman’s representatives made a statement that all accounts by David Holthouse were accurate, and refuted no aspect of the story. This play has been created from the previous articles mentioned, conversations with Mr. Holthouse, lectures he has given around the country, and inspired original text by the playwrights.
