2 contrasting monologues (classic/contemporary - dramatic/comedic). If interested in musicals, 2 contrasting songs (uptempo/ballad), bring sheet music in the correct key.

ALL ETHNICITIES ENCOURAGED

HONKY TONK ANGELS:

ANGELA: Female. (30-45). Overworked, underappreciated Texan housewife. Comic, strong willed, sings Stand By Your Man, Harper Valley PTA, and more.

DARLENE: Female. (21-28) Young, sheltered innocent. Sweet, simple. Sings Coal Miner's Daughter, Calling All Angels and more.

SUE ELLEN: Female (25-40) Tough, divorced career womana tough, twice-divorced small-town Texas career woman who is now a sarcastic city gal. Sings 9 to 5, These Boots Are Made for Walking, Cleopatra, Queen of Denial and more.

UNNECESSARY FARCE:

BILLIE: Female. (20-30s). A police officer. Seems to lack every skill needed for police work. Enthusiastic, eager to succeed. Strong comedy and physical agility a must.


KAREN: Female. (30s). Accountant who usually has a very professional demeanor but seems unable to keep herself together today. Strong comedy and physical agility a must.

TODD: Male. (20’s-40’s). Professional hit man with a pronounced Scottish accent whose accent gets thicker the angrier he gets until he’s completely indecipherable. Big, brawny, intimidating. Highly comic role.

THE MUSIC MAN

HAROLD HILL: Male. (25-45). Leading man, star quality. Charismatic, charming, fast-talking con artist. Star vehicle. Sings B-High G.

MARIAN PAROO: Female. (25-35) Soprano: Low G to High A
Stuffy, conceited librarian and piano teacher in town. Leading lady.

MARCELLUS WASHBURN: Male. (25-45) Good comic character actor. Sings and dances.

MRS. PAROO: Female. (40-55) Good actress/singer, capable of an Irish brogue. A flat-High E flat.

MAYOR SHINN: Male. (35-55) Good comic character actor. Non singing.

MACBETH

MACBETH Male. (30-45). Impetuous, passionate, susceptible to dreams of power and glory.

LADY MACBETH Female (25-45). Poised, well bred, fiercely intelligent, ambitious woman who wants power but falls victim to guilt and madness. Deeply and passionately connected to her husband.

ALWAYS PATSY CLINE


PATSY CLINE: Female. (25-35). Famous, acclaimed country vocalist best known for her rich tone, emotionally expressive and bold contralto voice. A county music pioneer. Must be able to provide a reasonable facsimile to especially sound like Patsy Cline and have a similar look.

LOUISE SEGER. Female. (35-45). Wisecracking fan and friend of Patsy. Provides backstory and narration of the play. Must be engaging storyteller. Non-singing.

THE DROWSY CHAPERONE


ADOLPHO. Male. (28-45) Self-proclaimed “Ladies Man”, former silent movie star. Comedic. Fake Spanish/Italian accent required – what would be called “Eurotrash”. Strong singer with an A sharp to G and strong falsetto.

JANET VAN DE GRAAFF. Female. (25-40) Follies star. Attractive, vivacious, outgoing, loves the limelight. Epitome of a 1920’s starlet. Strong dance and vocal with special skills such as acrobatics, juggling, etc, a plus. Alto with huge belt (G3-E5).

ROBERT MARTIN: Male. (30-40) Token 1920’s leading man, debonair, dashing. Cheesy, cheerful and optimistic. Must be able to tap and roller skate. Strong tenor (C3-Ab4)

THE DROWSY CHAPERONE: Female (30’s50’s). Janet’s alcoholic, carefree confidante. Melodramatic diva who chews scenery and steals scenes. Fabulous comedic role, over the top caricature. Alto with strong belt (F3-D5).
