This is a new play.
Sarah Cooper – 30’s, female. Plagued by sorrow and depression as the play opens, Sarah undergoes a procedure to make her happier. It works, but the undercurrents of that sorrow are always at play beneath the surface and it is unsettling and confusing to her.
Jake Bellamy – 30’s, male. A seemingly happy man, although possibly a lonely one. There are things going on inside him that bubble out as the play proceeds; things that were informing his actions from the start.
Virginia Cooper – 60’s, female. Sarah’s mother. A no-nonsense woman who does not suffer fools lightly. She is also deeply affected by her daughter’s depression and struggling with how to help.
Doctor; Pharmaceutical Associate; Co-worker; Mother with Stroller; Beth Denton; Waitress; Airport Information Officer – 30’s-40’s, female. All the other people Sarah encounters are played by one actress. The differences between them are minimal – it is Sarah’s perception that everybody she sees looks basically the same. The exception is Beth Denton, who is completely three-dimensional in her blankness.
