HELENA—Latina, 20s. Smart, centered and a beauty in her own right, though not as outgoing as her sister
BELMIRA—Latina, 20s, beautiful, nai?ve, frivolous, outgoing and a bit vain, but charming and adored by the entire village. She is the bride to be.
MOISES–Latino, 20s/30. A mysterious stranger , charming and handsome. Earnest and sympathetic, he’s been searching for love for a long time.
DUARTE—Latino, 20s. A good, good man from a respected family. He is the groom to be.
SR. COSTA—Latino, 40s/50s. Belmira and Helena’s father. A fisherman. Sentimental, romantic.
SRA. COSTA—Latina, 40s/50s. Belmira and Helena’s mother. Loving, wise.
The play is set in Brazil. Knowledge of Portuguese a plus.

NORMA MCCORVEY--ages from 20s-60s over the course of the play --A funny, angry, heavy-drinking, Texan lesbian.
SARAH WEDDINGTON—ages from 20s-60s over the course of the play. A feminist, a great lawyer, a Minister’s daughter, charming, brilliant, ladylike, and quite composed.
CONNIE GONZALEZ/Ens.—40s, Mexican, butch. Should have some size and heft. Even handed with enormous patience and few words. Loyal, loving, and maybe even wise. Will play other roles.
LINDA COFFEE/Ens- Late 20’s, a shy, bright, somewhat awkward, and earnest lawyer. Will play several other roles
RON WEDDINGTON/Ens.--30’s, a bright, ambitious, right-minded lawyer, in his wife’s shadow. Will also play doctors and lawyers.
FLIP BENHAM/Ens-30s-40s the head of Operation Rescue. Passionate, fiery, folksy, earnest. Will play several other roles.
JUSTICE BLACKMUN/Ens.--50s/60s, deliberate to a fault, torn and thoughtful. Will play several other roles
JAY FLOYD/Ens.—40s. a lawyer, not stupid but not brilliant either. Will play several other roles
RONDA MACKEY—30s, lovely, a true believer. Will play several other roles
ROXANNE RODRIGUEZ/Ens.--20, a young Latina feminist, working class, bright, a truth seeker.
MARY --late 40's or 50's, Norma's mother. A mean drunk. Also plays other roles.
