PREPARATION

We would like to see monologues from the ‘17-‘18 season plays. All scripts will be available at the AEA office. Monologues are available on the Northlight website: northlight.org/opportunities. Bring headshot and resume.

Enter from the north side of the building near the box office. Use the door on your immediate left with the sign “EPA Auditions.” Follow signs. Take the stairs all the way down to the basement. Wait in the “dragon room,” aptly named for the dragon painted on the wall. Free parking in the rear, behind the theatre.

Northlight Theatre has posted monologues for the 2017-2018 season on our website at northlight.org/opportunities under the Casting tab. All scripts will be available at the AEA office and at Northlight. Please read the plays, and then select one of the provided monologues belonging to the character(s) that best fit you. Aim for an audition that is under two minutes.

EPA Procedures are in effect for this audition.

An Equity monitor will be provided.

All roles in THE BOOK OF WILL require British dialects and we are looking for a diverse cast. Most actors will play multiples roles.
--Of the 27 roles in our season, 4 of them may be cast with non-Equity actors
-In THE LEGEND OF GEORGIA McBRIDE the parts of Rexy/Jason will be played by the same actor.
-SANCTIONS is already cast, and the 2 female roles in THE BEAUTY QUEEN OF LEENANE are cast.

John Heminges - 50, reasonable friend and financial manager of The King’s Men, owner of the Globe Tap House, a good man, a gentleman, if serious.
Richard Burbage - 50s, seasoned lion of the stage, famous across England, loud and proud.
Alice Heminges - 35, John’s daughter and alewife, knows everyone and hangs with the boys
Boy Hamlet - young actor
Barman - ruffian
Barman 2 - drunk
Ben Jonson - poet laureate of England, friend/rival of Shakespeare. Amazing drunk. A bear of a man. Surprisingly weepy.
Elizabeth Condell – Henry’s wife, savvy and fun
Rebecca Heminges – John’s wife, a good wife. Strong, busy with their grocery business, a woman who had weathered much but loves her husband and sons and God.
Ed Knight – “stage manager” for The King’s Men, self-serious and particular
Ralph Crane - humble scrivener of The King’s Men. Quick, sure, quiet.
William Jaggard - successful if shady publisher of book, plays and playbills. He is confident in his ability to get what he wants. Very experienced, very connected, willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done. An ass.
Isaac Jaggard – William’s son, will inherit the business. Sensitive, an artist at heart.
Marcus - 20, printer’s apprentice at the Jaggard print house, nosy but honest
Compositor - works for Jaggard, young
Emilia Bassano Lanier - 50, fiery Italian feminist and poet, independent woman, lover of life (and of Shakespeare)
Anne Hathaway Shakespeare - 60, Shakespeare’s now ailing wife. Strong-willed, a classy lady, a survivor
Susannah Shakespeare - 30, good girl and daughter of Shakespeare
