HENRI LAUTREC
Male, any ethnicity, 20s-30s. A short man crippled by underdeveloped legs at a young age (due to his parents’ inbreeding; they are first cousins). Runs away to Paris to escape his unsupportive parents. A stubborn and obsessed man, he becomes an alcoholic under the stress of the criticism of his art.

SUZANNE VALADON
Female, any ethnicity, 20s. The beautiful and voluptuous daughter of a whore who poses as a nude model for Henri and is an artist herself. She is a private and independent spirit, caring for her young son alone and often engaging in romantic relationships with the artists for whom she models.

PAPA (ALPHONSE)
Male, any ethnicity, 40s-50s. Henri’s father, a large man and strong hunter. A charming Maurice Chevalier type.

MAMAN (ADELE)
Female, any ethnicity, 40s-50s. Henri’s mother, a religious and forgiving woman who moves to Paris to look out and care for Henri.

Joe Lightfoot
50’s-60s’. Baritone. Doesn’t have to have a great voice but should be able to carry a tune well. Native American (Choctaw Nation) and Mexican decent. Homeless. Has been living on the streets for a long time. He’s seen better days and keeps company with Jack Daniels. Brutal, racist, heartbroken, idiosyncratic and raw. When he meets Liz, his impenetrable armor is pierced. Has a dry sense of humor, very smart and is irascible with a heart of gold. Instrumental skills: None

Mama
50’s-60’s. Soprano. Must have an excellent folk/country sound. She’s born of the land. A Texas flower possessing an iron fist in a velvet glove. She has known both hardship and abundance. Herself the daughter of a homeless man.
Instrumental skills: banjo, mandolin or guitar. Should come prepared with something in the style of Alison Krauss.

Jordan
Mid 20’s to early 30’s. Tenor with a soulful folk sound. African American. Third generation Waco, Texas. Affable and generous of spirit. Liz’s boyfriend. We love to love him, but he's still learning what love looks like for himself. Ambitious but grounded. Instrumental skills: guitar, banjo, mandolin. Should come prepared with something in the style of the Avett Brothers.

Seeking:

George Bailey:
Caucasian male, 30s, all American, Midwestern man with big dreams. Intelligent and generous, he puts others before himself. His patience is tried throughout the play and this ultimately leads to his attempted suicide.

Harry Bailey:
Caucasian male, late 20s to early 30s, American war hero, he lives the life that George might have led if things had gone more according to plan. He owes his life to George who saved him from drowning when they were kids.

Mr. Henry Potter:
50s - 60s, antagonist, a rich old banker who wants to rid Bedford Falls of the Bailey Building and Loan. He is mean, crotchety, power hungry..

Sam Wainwright:
30s, high school friend of George and a very successful plastics producer. He offers George a “chance of a lifetime” job and is a potential fiancée to Mary before George sweeps her away.

Mary Hatch:
30s, kind and strong and very pretty the woman of George’s dreams and mother to his children. She loyally stands by her husband through thick and thin.

Millie Bailey:
50 - 60s, Georges loving mother.

Uncle Billy:
50 - 60s, George’s irresponsible alcoholic Uncle.

Ernie:
30s, the local taxi driver in Bedford Falls and close friend to George.

Clarence:
50s - 60s, a sweet, jovial, comic and lovable angel from heaven.

Tom Bailey:
50s - 60s, George’s father who passes away and leaves the responsibility of running the Bailey Building and Loan to George.
Also plays Mr. Martini: the friendly local bar owner in Bedford Falls.

Mrs. Hatch:
50s – 60s, Mary’s overly protective mother. Also plays Mrs. Martini

Matthew:
60’s Dignified, executive angel
