SEEKING

Submissions for various roles.

Seeking submissions from AEA members. AEA members must submit themselves directly in order to be considered via this posting (no agent or third-party submissions).

PREPARATION

Please bring picture and resume. Be prepared to dance first. Bring both tap and jazz shoes or sneakers. Also be prepared to sing a song selection in the style of the show in case asked to sing. Performers are welcome to sing from the show.

BREAKDOWN

Jack:
Male, 17-22, Handsome, passionate and charismatic leader of the Newsies. A street-smart kid with a dark artistic soul right beneath the bluster. Not a blowhard. This kid's the real thing. Must have a great pop tenor voice; lead.

Davey:
Male, 16-21 any ethnicity. A thinker; raised in a home as opposed to the other Newsies, Davie is the book-smart counterpoint to the other boys. The voice of reason. Must have a great contemporary tenor voice; Supporting,

Joseph Pulitzer:
Male, 40-49 The boisterous forefather of Wm. F. Buckley Jr., Glen Beck and Rupert Murdoch. An on point, know it all, politician; impolite and impatient with the world; must sing well; Supporting.

Katherine Plumber:
Female, 17-22 The strong willed daughter of Pulitzer; this young lady drips smarts, opinions and confidence. A young Katherine Hepburn or Ellen Page. This damsel needs no prince to save her. Must have a great pop/contemporary musical theater voice with a high belt; principal.

Crutchie:
Male, 16-21 any ethnicity. A slight, sickly boy with a huge heart. He walks with the aid of a crutch due to a bad leg, but that doesn't hold him back from being right in the middle of any mischief. A real charmer

Medda:
Female, 40-69 A vaudeville star of the Bowery variety. Risque, tough, with a big voice and great comic delivery; Supporting. Will preferably cast character as African American.

Morris Delancey:
Male 17-22 A tough guy. Heavy in charge of keeping peace at The World's distribution window. Must sing and dance very well.

Oscar Delancey:
Male 15-20 Morris's equally tough brother. Must sing and dance very well.

Spot Conlon:
Male 17-22 The leader of the Brooklyn newsies. Spot is cocky and proud Brooklynite. Must sing very well, Tenor; featured.

Snyder:
Male 30-50 any ethnicity. Warden of The Refuge; a frightening, spidery and sinister man. Featured

Romeo:
Male 16-21 One of the newsies. Romeo likes to think he’s something of a ladies man, although he lacks the skills to be so. Must sing and dance very well, Tenor.

Race:
Male 17-22 A newsie with a penchant for betting. A loudmouthed smart-aleck, Race is supremely self confident. Must sing and dance very well, Tenor.

Finch:
Male 16-21 One of the newsies. Finch is streetwise, bold, and is proud to be a newsie through and through. Must sing and dance very well.

All other roles have already been cast locally.
