Both of her parents are psychiatrists. A bit of a know-it-all, she enjoys policing and correcting her teammates. Junior at East High.

#25:
Female, 18+ to play 17; open ethnicity. Captain. Classic ex-coach’s daughter. She keeps the team on track, even if she’d rather join in on the fun, and loves a good pep talk. A hard worker, a good leader; emotionally closed off, she discovers her first crush on a woman and shaves her head. Junior at East High.

#13:
Female, 18+ to play 16; open ethnicity. Midfield. Class clown, jock, a bit of a bro, her older brother's a stoner and they definitely play FIFA. Into her wackiness. Refuses to take anything too seriously, she lives to rib her teammates, which can get her in hot water. Junior at East High.

#46:
Female, 18+ to play 16; open ethnicity. Bench. The new girl, awkward, different. Homeschooled, she lives in a yurt with her new age travel writer mom. Her nomadic life has left her with idiosyncratic passions (bird watching) and a lack of social skills, but she doesn't seem to mind. Extraordinary soccer skills are essential; she must juggle a soccer ball for a minute, or perform a similarly impressive feat.

#2:
Female, 18+ to play 16; open ethnicity. Defense. Innocent, unlucky, kind, skinny. Sweet, naive, sheltered, she considers herself a nice and humble person; she is a member of her church's youth group and of Amnesty International, along with the oldest sister and caretaker of her many younger siblings. Has an eating disorder; has suffered multiple concussions. Doesn't like talking bad about others. Junior at East High.

#8:
Female, 18+ to play 16; open ethnicity. Defense. Omigosh, plays dumb, goofy, giggly, excitable, a crier, a dreamer. Obsessed with The Lord of the Rings and making it to nationals in Miami. Her mom died when she was ten, and she never talks about it. She lives in a self-inflicted state of innocence. Junior at East High.

#00:
Female, 18+ to play 17; open ethnicity. Goalie. Intense performance anxiety, social anxiety, perfectionist, high achiever. She has a 4.9 GPA, is Editor in Chief of the high school newspaper, plays cello. Before every game, she stops talking and vomits. Militant. East High.

SOCCER MOM:
Female, 40s-50s. Manic with grief, warm, generous, she is a suburban woman who prides herself on her involvement in her teenagers’ lives. In the wake of her daughter's death, she sees herself as a mother to all, and would rather console her daughter's teammates than admit her tragedy. Never misses a game. Verbal dexterity is essential; she is spinning very fast to avoid looking at her unthinkable loss.

SPT 3 /$318/wk min, R/T Trans, Housing

1st reh- 7/19/16. Runs: 7/29 – 7/31
Seeking:

SUSAN TRINDER:
Female, 20. The orphan child of a murderess, raised in the dodgiest borough of London, by a kindly baby farmer Grace Sucksby. A skilled pickpocket and petty thief, Sue is wise in the ways of the street but has also been protected from much of the harshness of life by the love of Mrs. Sucksby to whom she is devoted. Feisty and funny, Sue is eager to strike out on her own.

MAUD LILY:
Female, 20. An heiress. The lovely, well-spoken lady of the Briar Estate. Raised by her uncle and kept away from the world to serve as his secretary, Maud has been denied the innocence of childhood and made into an oddity admired only by purveyors of pornography. Maud longs for freedom and normalcy and is desperate to escape and find liberty in London.

MRS. SUCKSBY/ENSEMBLE:
Female, 50’s-60’s. Baby-farmer and cunning businesswoman, who raised and favored Sue, protecting her from the neighborhood boys, and prizing Sue like a jewel above all others. With a keen understanding of a woman’s “miserable lot” in “this terrible life,” Mrs. Sucksby has given twenty years to the development of an extravagant plot to make her rich and reunite her with her daughter. She is bawdy, motherly and does not suffer fools.

RICHARD “GENTLEMAN” RIVERS:
Male, 30s. A master con and expert in art forgery and “higher-class” crimes. Aware of his impact on both women and men, Rivers is a versatile actor who will do anything to achieve his aims. He is incredibly charming and shrewd. At once repulsive and deliciously undeniable. A savvy partner to Mrs. Sucksby in a dangerous scheme of seduction and deceit

CHRIS LILLY/ENSEMBLE:
Male, 60s. A peculiar gentleman with an extensive library of pornographic books and engravings. Lilly has kept Maud away from the world since childhood and raised her to be his secretary. His eyesight is fading and he needs (yet despises) his dependence on Maud’s. In love with his dead sister Marianne who “betrayed” him by falling in love with the estate stable boy.

DAINTY WARREN/MARGARET/NURSE SPIKEY/BETTY/ENSEMBLE:
Female, 20s. Dainty is a not the smartest of petty thieves, but she is a lot of fun and devoted to John Vroom and Sue. Parlor maid. /Margaret is the parlor maid at Briar. Snippy and competitive with Sue./Second nurse at Maud’s asylum./Betty is a “simpleton” at Sue’s asylum favored by Nurse Spiller.

COOK/MRS. CREAM/STOUT/LUNATIC/ENSEMBLE:
Female, 50’s-60’s. Stubborn and dry, Cook is accustomed to things going her way in the kitchen at Briar. Has no patience for Sue or her demands on Maud’s behalf./Owner of the cottage where Gentleman brings Maud and Sue. A busybody./Lead nurse at Maud’s childhood asylum./ Madwoman at Renbridge asylum

MRS. STILES/NURSE SPILLER/ENSEMBLE:
Female, 50’s-60’s. Housekeeper at Briar who attended bitterly to Maud./Miserable asylum nurse with no patience and a sadistic streak toward her charges, especially peeved by Sue’s “uppity” nature.

JOHN VROOM/ENSEMBLE:
Male, 20s. A misbegotten orphan and petty thief. Mrs. Sucksby’s favorite whipping boy, whom she often hits to release her anger. Jealous of Sue’s favored status. Bitter, ill tempered and rude -- but only because he’s been treated so poorly.

CHARLES CREAM/ENSEMBLE:
Male, Teen. The knife boy at Briar who is beaten by the butler Mr. Way for minor infractions and for his “unnatural” sadness when Gentleman leaves Briar.

MR. WAY/MR. HAWTREY/DR. CHRISTIE/ENSEMBLE:
Male, 40’s-50s. Butler at Briar who has it in for Charles and his affections for Gentleman. Loyal to Chris Lilly./Hawtrey is a publisher of pornography from London invited to Briar to hear Maud read aloud. A decent man who is protective of Maud./Christie is the ambitious yet scientifically out-of-date director of the Renbridge Lunatic Asylum.

MR. IBBS/MR. INKER/MR. HUSS/ENSEMBLE:
Male, 50s. A crooked pawn-seller and neighborhood fence who shares his shop (and sometimes his bed) with Mrs. Sucksby who’s been his “partner in crime” since before Sue was born./A carriage man at Briar./One of Chris Lilly’s guests at Briar. A “gentleman collector” of pornographic materials. Lecherous towards Maud.

MARIANNE/ENSEMBLE:
Female, 30s. Maud’s mother, a spirited woman ahead of her time who became pregnant by a stable boy at her father’s estate then committed by her father and brother to a lunatic asylum.

YOUNG SUE/YOUNG MAUD/ENSEMBLE:
Female, 10. Child variations of both Sue and Maud. Must be quite different for each portrayal.
