THE NEIGHBOR
Male, 30s or 40s, An introverted musician. Ever since the love of his life left him and broke his heart, he’s locked himself in his apartment. He spends his days listening to his neighbors’ lives, imagining what it’s like to be them. Initially, he seems sad and lonely above all—but we’ll learn that he’s far more complicated (and far more clever) than we thought.

THE WIFE

THE HUSBAND
(also plays THE LOVER): Male, 30s-40s, This actor plays two roles that are complete opposites—a tired and emotionally-cold husband; a passionate and hotheaded lover. The roles should be portrayed with different-sounding speaking voices, if possible. Also, this role is the least demanding in terms of singing.

LADY LA BREA
Female, 20s, Glamorous, graceful, smoky—think a 1940s femme fatale in red satin in a nightclub. All she does is sing. No dialogue.

LOAN SHARK
(also plays THE DETECTIVE’S VOICE): Male, 30s or 40s, Tough, dangerous, but with a dry sarcasm and a certain sheen to him. He’s a very “LA” kind of gangster.

THUG 1
(also a BACKUP SINGER): Male, 20s, Tough as nails but with a sensitive side.

THUG 2
(also plays THE KID/BACKUP SINGER): Female, 20s, Scrappy, smart, always ready with a witty retort.
