NYMF SALARY FOR ALL SHOWS: Please note: new in 2017 for ALL shows the New York Musical is now on a contract with Actors’ Equity. All performers will be compensated at a rate of $11/hr, with no hourly minimum per week, and a maximum of 36 hours/week. Health/pension will NOT be paid on this contract

Equity actor/singers for various roles in the following FIVE productions.

If unable to attend the EPAs, and you wish to submit to a specific production, please submit to the submission contact name and address listed under each individual show - multiple casting offices are participating in these group days, so be sure to submit accordingly.

PREPARATION

Please prepare ONE brief vocal selection that is appropriate for the role(s) to which you feel you are most suited. An accompanist will be provided, bring sheet music in your key and you MUST bring 5 (FIVE) pictures and resumes stapled together - NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE (at least bring 5 resumes if you don’t have 5 pictures available). Representatives with casting authority from each show will be present, you are free to bring in something specifically appropriate for any of the shows, or perform ONE general selection that shows you off best - but, as in years past, we are NOT permitting more than one vocal selection at this EPA day.

DATES: All shows in attendance are full productions in the New York Musical Festival (http://www.nymf.org) – with performances taking place between 7/10 and 8/6, 2017. Exact performance dates and venues are still being finalized. Rehearsals for most shows are anticipated to begin on/after 6/10, and will be announced at a later date.

[WENDY] 17-24. Female. Mezzo-soprano, MUST be able to belt. Talented, ambitious and determined, plays all her cards right in order to be a star.

[JAKE] 17-24. Male. Tenor. Quiet and unassuming with a musical streak. Takes his time to find his voice and place in the world.

[LUISA] 40. Female. Mezzo. Wendy’s mother. Has a steely cool exterior but holds secrets she doesn’t wish to share.

[GUILLARD] 40. Male. Baritenor. Owner of the nightclub Wendy works at, 7 years later. Sleazy, street-savvy, wry. Has questionable motivations regarding Wendy.

[OLIVIA] 17-24. Female. Alto. Wendy’s best friend in high school. Sweet and friendly exterior but knows exactly what she wants and how to get it.

[SIMON/MANAGER (DUAL)] 20s. Male. Tenor. SIMON: The big man of Walton High. Sleek and suave, in tune with the latest fads and fashions, and is perfectly content with where he’s going. MANAGER: The commercialism and chaos of Hollywood in one guy. Cares for Jake but cares more about his career.

[ENSEMBLE] Variety of roles, from high schoolers to showgirls to paparazzi to fans.

Story Line: Drama, Family, Romance. “She ran to the light hoping to find her heart”
Torn between a possessive mother, her childhood sweetheart Jake, and spirited friends, Wendy deserts home in search of city lights, fame, and a long-lost father. 7 years later, Wendy and Jake’s destinies once again intertwine. With rekindled love within grasp, Wendy must first find her own truth – only to confront having her pursuit of stardom cross fatefully with the uncovering of a dark family secret. FIREFLY IN THE LIGHT is a pop/rock musical about ambition, loyalty, and truth of identity.

action that would bring the world the image of a ‘burning bus America’ that most

TEMPLE OF THE SOULS is an award-winning musical of secrets, lies, and forbidden love. Two worlds collide in the magical rainforest of Puerto Rico, when Amada, the beautiful daughter of a Conquistador, and Guario, a young Taíno, run away to escape the intolerant world below. In this mythical romance, our young lovers find themselves at the Temple of the Souls where nightmares and dreams come true. A Contemporary Pop Musical inspired by the history of Puerto Rico - written in English with Spanish and Taíno text.

SEEKING:

[AMADA] female, 16, Latina. Pop/belt Soprano. She is the sixteen-year old sole daughter of Don Severo. She is courageous, adventurous, and daring. Amada believes that her mother died in childbirth. She is close to her nanny, Nana, and does not know that Nana is her birth mother. Amada dreams of romance, and is a writer. Knowledge of Spanish. Also plays: TOURIST.

[DON SEVERO] male, 50, Latino. Baritone. He is a fifty-year old Conquistador born in Spain and raised in Puerto Rico. Severo is an arrogant, daring, self-indulgent Spaniard, who is both respected and feared by the people on the island. Because of shame, he protects his daughter from the knowledge that Nana is her mother. Knowledge of Spanish. Also plays: TOURIST.

[NANA] female, 40s, Latina. Mezzo Soprano. She is in her forties, and one of the few Taíno women who survived the Conquistadores’ decimation of the Taínos. She is Don Severo’s mate and nanny to her own daughter, Amada, fathered by Don Severo. Nana is forbidden to mention that she is Amada’s mother. Nana is strong willed, caring, and earthy. She is proud of her heritage and wishes she could tell Amada that she is her mother, but fears Don Severo’s wrath. Knowledge of Spanish. Also plays: TOUR GUIDE.

[GUARIO] male, 20s, Latino. Pop Tenor. He is a young Taíno man in his twenties, who was raised as a criado (a servant raised in a Spanish home). Guario is without a home. He returns to the spot where his ancestors lived, anxious to find his roots at the top of El Yunqe. Knowledge of Spanish. Also plays: TOURIST.

[NEMESIO] male, 20s, Latino. Tenor. He is an orphan in his twenties who was raised in Don Severo’s home with his cousin Amada. Nemesio thinks Amada is beautiful, but he spends his time wooing and flirting with all the young women in town. He is cultured, conceited, and arrogant, and doesn’t take life seriously because he lives off his uncle’s wealth. Knowledge of Spanish. Also plays: TOURIST

[ENSEMBLE MEN] male, 20s – 40s, Latino. To play TAÍNO SOULS (Indigenous people of Puerto Rico), SEVERO’S MEN, NEMESIO’s MAN SERVANT LUIS, TOWNSFOLK, PASTOR. Must have knowledge of Spanish.
