Breakdown

Preparation Instructions:

Please choose one of the following:

1) For OTHER DESERT CITIES:
Prepare a one minute to 90 second monologue from the play or other serious contemporary monologue with an American setting.

2) For I LOVE YOU, YOU'RE PERFECT, NOW CHNAGE:
Prepare a 1 minute comedic monologue and a 1 minute humourous song excerpt showing vocal range & comic potential.

3) For THE FOX ON THE FAIRWAY:
Prepare up to a 90 second contemporary comedic monologue.

Seeking:

Lyman Wyeth:
(male, approximately 70) Lyman, like Ronald Reagan, and with whom he was a political ally during Reagan's heyday, is a former B-movie actor who retains his California appearance of health and vigor. Well-off, he has retired with his wife to their Palm Springs residence. Lyman is complex, principled in his beliefs, and distinguished by his great love for his family. Within his hale and heartiness is a sad secret which he has protected for years.

Polly Wyeth:
(female, mid to late 60s) Lyman's wife. Polly is smart, well-preserved in the California style of casual athleticism, force of will, possible plastic surgery, and the occasional cigarette. She was a writer of a series of B films with her sister Silda once upon a time.

Silda:
(female, 60s) Silda, Polly's sister, is a recovering alcoholic who recently fell off the wagon and following her treatment ahs moved in with her sister and brother-in-law because she cannot live alone and has no money besides. She is fiercely liberal, outspoken, acerbic, and retains more of er Jewish origins than her sister. She is strongly allied with Brooke.

Brooke Wyeth:
(female, late 30s) Daughter of the Wyeths, Brooke is politically liberal and a writer who has suffered both a mental breakdown and a failed marriage. She has returned home to discuss her latest book with her family because it delves into a dark chapter involving the suicide of her older brother, Henry.

Trip Wyeth:
(male, late 20s, possibly early 30s) Brooke's younger brother. A successful television producer of b-grade entertainment. Trip is very smart, very funny, and seeks to ensure harmony among the very politically divided members of the family. He wants to keep things pleasant but is fully capable of stating the truth about people.

Seeking: Strong singers with comic skills required, each to play numerous characters in a series of musical skits about love and marriage.

Woman 1 - late 20s to early 30s, a soprano

Woman 2 - mid-30s to early 40s, alto

Man 1 - late 20s to mid-30s, bari-tenor

Man 2 - mid-30s to 40s, baritone

THE FOX ON THE FAIRWAY
1st reh: 7/5/16. Runs: 7/22 - 7/31
Seeking:

Henry Bingham
(mid 40s): Director fo the Quail Valley Country Club. He is witty and cynical at times, much like Basil Fawlty from Fawlty Towers. He gets into a high-stakes bet on a golf tournament and is determined to do what it takes to win. He is also unhappy in his marriage to Muriel and becomes involved with Pamela.

Pamela Peabody
(39): A member of the Quail Valley Country Club. She is very attractive and sophisticated, but a bit loose and a bit of a drinker. Throughout the play she aids Bingham in his plans to make sure their club wins.

Justin Hicks
(25): Bingham's new eager-to-please assistant who volunteers his services as a golfer to help Quail Valley win the golf tournament. He is romantically involved with Louise and proposes to her early on, but becomes emotionally distraught when things become difficult between them.

Louise Heindbedder
(23): A waitress at the Quail Valley Country Club. She is very attractive, and a bit flighty, but studious. She gets engaged to Justin early on, but a mishap results in her becoming very upset over their future together, making her bawl at a moment's notice.

Dickie Bell
(mid 40s): The director of the rifal Crouching Squirrel Country Club, with whom Bingham gets into a high-stakes bet. He is a bit obnoxious, including his fashion sense, but tries to come off a good-natured. He is Pamela's ex and has a thing for Bingham's wife Muriel.

Muriel Bingham
(40s): Bingham's wife, who runs an antique shop, which becomes part of the bet between Henry and Dickie. Generally overbearing and stern, she somehow has a soft spot for Dickie.
