BREAKDOWN

LUDA MUSCOLINO
(40’S) Italian. Strong Italian accent. The matriarch of the family. Trying to raise three daughters to be good people despite their controlling and violent father. She is deeply passionate and caring.

NIC MUSCOLINO
(40’S) Italian. Strong Italian accent. The patriarch of the family. Can be stoic, passionate and violent. Works as street paver. His three daughters live in fear of him.

TINA MUSCOLINO
(24) Italian American. The eldest daughter. Tall and strong. Built like a work horse. Has to leave school and start working in a factory in order to help take care of the family. Is usually the person to protect her sisters from her father’s rage.

VITA MUSCOLINO
(20) Italian American. The middle daughter. Has been sent to Catholic boarding school after an altercation with her father that led to her having multiple broken bones. Smart and logical. Has no intention of forgiving her father and going back to the way things were.

FRANCESCA MUSCOLINO
(16-18 to play 16) Italian American. Passionate and a dreamer. Has fallen in love with her school friend Connie. They concoct a plan to run away to France together.

CONNIE DUFFY
(16-18 to play 16) Irish American. In love with Francesca whom she plans to run away. Is more tentative and nervous than Francesca and fears hurting her father and the religious repercussions.

ALBERT DUFFY
(40’s-50s) Irish American. A butcher. Father of Connie and her younger brother. Kind and uncomplicated. Has fallen for Luda, the matriarch of the Muscolino family.

CELIA JONES
(26) African American. Works in a box factory with Tina, the eldest Muscolino daughter. Celia befriends Tina when others will not. Inspires her to learn to read and take night classes so that they both can get out of the factory.
