BREAKDOWN

CHURCH BASEMENT LADIES – THE LAST POTLUCK SUPPER
Director: Chan Harris Choreographer: Jacob Toth Stage Manager: Ronn Goswick
1st Rehearsal 06.06.17, Opening 06.20.17 Closing 06.26.17

This show is cast. Seeking for possible replacements if needed.

Beverly Signe Engelson Hauge
Role CAST. (age 13-35): The mother of four children, she grew up in this kitchen and has a great deal of affection for the women of the basement. Although strong willed, she has a good head on her shoulders.

Mrs. Elroy Engelson (Karin)
Role CAST (20's-50's): Beverly’s mother. The most fashionable of the ladies and the best cook in the kitchen, she married very young but, over the years, has blossomed into a strong and gracious leader of the church, and of the kitchen.

Mrs. Glimer Gilmerson (Mavis)
Role CAST (30's-60’s): An able-bodied farm wife, Mavis is extremely good-natured and often tries to dispel any tension in the kitchen by changing the subject or telling a joke. She knows the lineage of every family in town, and is always willing to pitch in to fix a tractor, peel a potato, or scrub the lutefisk pot. She believes hard work is good for the soul.

The Widow Snustad (Vivian)
Role CAST (40’s-70’s but never changes): Her husband died very early in their marriage, and she turned all her attention to the church, and to the kitchen. Clearly the matriarch, she holds tightly to tradition with both hands. The other women get a kick out of her and secretly enjoy watching her squirm when she is challenged.

The Pastor (also plays additional roles):
Served as Pastor of the church from 1944 -1970, but has been in the Cities for the past 9 years. The ladies have a great deal of respect for him and are thrilled to see him again. He is a nice man, if perhaps not a terribly dynamic preacher. He lives a life of service and humility.

MORGAN
(30) Mezzo with a great belt. Competitive, witty, and a tad melodramatic. She's on Match, Badoo, Hitch, Tinder, eHarmony, Christian Mingle, OkCupid, Bumble, Hinge and How About We, but is still chronically single. She's very close with her grandmother, Pat.

TAD
(Late 20s, Early 30s) Tenor. Timid, sweet, overthinks things. He's cute, but definitely hasn't seen the inside of a gym. Good with computers. He's hopelessly in love with Morgan.

PAT
(mid-70s) Morgan's grandmother. Witty, prideful, and cynical woman who is in good health save her poor hearing. She's lonely, but life has taught her that being alone is better than dealing with a man. Thinks online dating is a waste of time, if not dangerous. The vocal range will be adjusted based on casting, but must be able to learn music and carry a tune.

MARV
(mid-70s) A kind, simple man. A jokester and storyteller who is in good health, save his poor eyesight. His loneliness has driven him to online dating. The vocal range will be adjusted based on casting, but must be able to learn music and carry a tune.
