APPOINTMENTS

Roanoke VA Auditions will be held January 27 and 28 by appointment only.



CONTRACT

Guest Artist Equity: $552 per week plus $25 per diem; Non-Equity begins at $300 per week.



SEEKING

Adult Equity and non-Equity actors for various roles in the upcoming 2017 Season. See breakdown.

Runs March 17 & 18 in Roanoke, VA

Seeking 2 male and 1 female singer/musicians for an original concert of the music of Simon and Garfunkel, Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, Carole King, etc. Not seeking traditional music theatre voices- seeking voices that fit an acoustic singer-songwriter style. Singers must play guitar and/or piano, and be able to accompany themselves. Very open to any and all voice types and ethnicities.

David O. Selznick
Caucasian Male, 37-45: Jewish, legendary Hollywood producer, fiercely determined to make Gone with the Wind a success in spite of the delays and disappointments encountered, working on an impossible deadline to revise the GWTW screenplay, believes in the movies and their power to transport audiences, highly agitated through most of the play, not above brow-beating others to get his way, spends the play cajoling, pleading, ordering and pandering to Hecht and Fleming.

Ben Hecht
Caucasian Male, 40-47: Jewish, average height, balding, Selznick’s go-to screenwriter hired to rewrite the GWTW screenplay, former Chicago newspaperman, a devoted advocate for the Jewish relief cause as WWII looms and constantly badgers Selznick, reminding him of his heritage and responsibility to European refugees, hasn’t read GWTW and isn’t very interested in re-writing the screenplay.

Victor Fleming
Caucasian Male, 35-50: Physically imposing, good looking director tapped to replace fired GWTW director George Cukor, confident, prone to histrionics, has come up through ranks from driver to cameraman to director. Preening, egotistical, narcissistic and famous movie director.

Miss Poppenghul
Female, 30-59: Selznick's secretary, has seen it all and is never fazed

Seeking 3 dynamic pop/rock singers for an original concert of one hit wonders, from the 1950s to now. Must be proficient in the pop/rock style with a big vocal range- not seeking traditional music theatre voices. Very open to any and all genders, voice types and ethnicities.

Douglas Panch
Male 22-35. The Vice Principal. Frustrated with his life, he finds the drive of the young spellers alien to him. After five years' absence from the Bee, Panch returns as judge. There was an incident at the Twentieth Annual Bee, but he claims to be in a better place now, thanks to a high-fiber diet and Jungian analysis. He is infatuated with Rona Lisa Peretti, but she does not return his affections. Non-singing role, seeking solid improv skills.

Urchins (Crystal, Ronette and Chiffon)
African American, Hispanic, Asian women, 21-30 : Street urchins who function as participants in the action and as a Motown Greek Chorus outside it. They are young, hip and smart. These girls must be exceptionally strong singers who can hold tight harmony, as well as strong, playful actors who move very well.

Seymour
Male 23-32: Insecure, naïve, put-upon florist clerk. Above all he is a sweet and well-meaning little man. He is not a silly nerd. Seeking a very strong actor and singer with good physical comedy skills. Looking for a good musical theater tenor who also possesses a rock sound.

Audrey
Female 23-38: Bleach-blond, secret love of Seymour’s life. She has poor self-worth and education, but incredibly good looks and a sweet and vulnerable demeanor. Seeking a very strong musical theater voice with solid mix/belt and access to a strong rock quality as needed.

Mushnik
Male 50-65: A failure of an East Side florist. He is profit-driven, greedy, and manipulative. Seeking a strong character actor who can sing and move well; looking for a baritenor who can hold harmony.

Orin Scrivello/Other Roles
Male 25-45: Very strong and transformative character actor/singer. Seeking a comic actor who can sing and move very well. Must be skilled with grounded, dark, odd-ball comedy. Looking for a strong singer with a solid falsetto. Plays all of the following - Orin: tall, dark, and handsome dentist with a black leather jacket and sadistic tendencies. He is not, however, a leftover from the movie Grease. Think instead of an egotistical pretty-boy, all got up like a greaser but thinking like an insurance salesman, and talking like a radio announcer; Wino #2: A homeless person; Customer #1: A super curious male customer; Customer #2: A disenchanted female passerby; Bernstein: a smooth-talking, hardworking, NBC TV executive; Mrs. Luce: flamboyant, socialite, wife-of-the-editor of Life Magazine; Skip Snip: bottom-feeding, opportunistic William Morris Agent; Patrick Martin: executive from World Botanical Enterprises, a fast-talking sleazy opportunist.

Ralph Parker
(Supporting): Male, 30-49: Narrator, also plays a cowboy, deliveryman and Xmas tree lot owner and the grown up version of Ralphie; Jean Shepard’s voice, wry and satirical with affection for the time and the story he tells.

The Old Man
(Supporting): Male, 35-50: Ralphie’s father, 1930s family man; a grumpy, good-hearted father. Obsessed with contests and the Bumpus hounds next door. Actor also performs the voice of Santa.

Miss Shields
(Supporting): Female, 21-32: A teacher who’s a real stickler when it comes to punctuation, actor also plays the Wicked Witch of the West.

Mother
Female, 30-45: Ralphie’s Mother; a patient parent with firm convictions. It takes a lot to ruffle her feathers.
