NOTE: With the exception of the Witches, all roles in this production will be cast as people of color.

They represent the people of a formerly colonized state. It could be an African nation, an island in the West Indies, a state in the Middle East or a country in South America. The inhabitants are not necessarily just the indigenous people of the land but also citizens who may have originally been brought into the country as slaves or bondsmen.

Seeking:

MALCOLM / AS CAST

Late 20’s. In this production this character will be ethnically diverse. Elder son or daughter of the murdered king Duncan. Smart and complicated. Believable as both a villain and a hero. Possesses a mysterious and ambiguous drive. Must have an excellent facility with language.

BANQUO / AS CAST

40’s. In this production this character will be ethnically diverse. Male or Female. General in the king’s army, like Macbeth, is a capable warrior. Dependable, honorable, with enormous integrity. The moral compass. Must have an excellent facility with language. May Understudy.

LENNOX / AS CAST

30’s – 40’s. In this production this character will be ethnically diverse. A nobleman/woman wavering in his/her loyalties. Strong, capable, charming and an individual. Must have an excellent facility with language. May Understudy.

ROSS / AS CAST

30’s – 40’s. In this production this character will be ethnically diverse. A nobleman/woman. Strong, capable, intuitive. Strategic in his decisions, she/he has a propensity for being on the winning side and putting him/herself first. Passionate and fiery. She/He joins Macbeth’s adversaries. Must have an excellent facility with language. May Understudy.

ANGUS / AS CAST

30’s – 40’s. In this production this character will be ethnically diverse. A nobleman/woman. In the end she/he deserts Macbeth. Not as outspoken as some of the other Thanes, She/he calculates and strategizes quietly. Strong, capable, keen intellect and great strategist. Must have an excellent facility with language. May Understudy.

DUNCAN / AS CAST

60’s. In this production this character will be ethnically diverse. King or Queen of Scotland. Beloved of the people. Strong in her/his convictions. She/he is warm, pious, gentle and regal. Possible double as Siward. Must have an excellent facility with language.

PORTER / DOCTOR / AS CAST

30’s – 40’s. In this production this character will be ethnically diverse. Male or Female. Porter is drunken, wry, and irreverent. Comic genius. Must have an excellent facility with language. This track doubles with the Doctor, which is a more serious role. He/She is concerned with Lady Macbeth’s declining health, and has thoughtfulness.
