Breakdown

Is it ok to endorse a lie if the lie tells a better story? For Isaac Newton the line between reality and hypothesis has never been clear. When a rival puts his scientific ideas to the test, Newton's fierce ambition to win an argument may jeopardize his entire life's work. Isaac's Eye is a comedy about the unscrupulous acts we commit to attain fame, success, and love.

Catherine: a woman in her 30's who is quippy and rooted. Some times an enabler, always the adult, she understands Isaac Newton better than anyone else. In a play of geniuses, she is the smartest person on the stage - emotionally and tactically. Like the men in the play she will stop at nothing to get what she wants- she's just better at hiding it!

Robert: 40's - slightly pompous. He has style and panache and enjoys a challenge and attention. He tends to make others feel small to inflate his self worth. He is a bit of a romancer and isn't afraid of the seedy underbelly of life though his legacy is paramount to him. Funny, charming, intelligent, seductive.

Isaac Newton: 20's-30's. He is scrappy and ambitious. The Mark Zuckerberg of the 17th Century. Easily able to shift between likability, empathy and gleeful ruthlessness. He is driven and inquisitive. He doesn't really consider the path or collateral damage of achieving his goal because he has tunnel vision. Facility with language, super active listening and timing is key.

Actor/Dying Man Named Sam: Any age. Our narrator. Dry, witty. Aziz Ansari like in his charming ability to jump in and out of the story he is narrating with gleeful delight.

This play takes place in the 17th Century- but please don't attempt to play period. The actors speak in modern language with vigor and clarity. The tone of the play is A Beautiful Mind meets The Princess Bride. The play is a mirthful, weird, weird, weird Rom Com, where the characters fall in love with each other and are addicted to the idea of status and power. The characters aren't able to psycho analyze their feelings, the acting is all on the lines.

ALL ROLES CAN BE ANY ETHNICITY!
