Breakdown

NOTE: I And You is a contemporary two character play. The actors should be able to show a range of ‘awkward’ and variety in their ability to charm.

SEEKING:

CAROLINE
Seeking actor 18+ to play 17 years old. Caucasian female.
Dealing with a serious illness, she is basically homebound, doing all her high school assignments from home. She is in comfy clothing, she does not expect company, she is sick but mainly just looks a little weak and frumpy. She doesn’t go out. Feisty and very smart, she is a loner who lets no one past the emotional barriers she has erected around her. Uses bravado and a tough exterior to cover any vulnerability or fear about her future. She is cynical, over it, does not let a stray ‘feeling’ near the surface, yet underneath she is a very likable young woman who is not without charm and humor.

ANTHONY
Seeking actor 18+ to play 17 years old. African-American or Latino male.
Neat, poised, mature for his age. High school classmate of Caroline’s who has come to her house to work on an assigned school project. He’s an ‘A’ student, a team player, a very nice guy. He’s not really great around girls. He takes his homework very seriously. When he likes something (jazz music) he is all in. Throughout the whole play he looks at Caroline like he’s trying to figure her out. Like he really needs to know who she is. Warm and friendly, he slowly manages to get past the emotional walls Caroline has put up.
