SEEKING
Equity actors and singer for various roles in the upcoming season.
PREPARATION
Non-musical auditioners: actors may choose to perform one or more monologues of their choice, read one or more scenes from the season’s plays, or a combination of scene(s) and monologues(s) within the confines of the time allotted.
Musical auditioners: In addition to preparing a brief song, actors may choose to perform one or more monologues of their choice, read one or more scenes from the season’s plays, or a combination of song(s), scene(s) and monologues(s) within the confines of the time allotted. Bring sheet music; an accompanist will be available all day.
A reader will be provided for those who wish to read from scripts. Copies of the scripts are available at StageSource (15 Channel Center Street, Suite 103, Boston) for review prior to the audition, and will be available at the audition.
Please bring a picture and resume, stapled together.

RUTH, 70s. A widow. Sweet as pie but with a judgmental streak.
MAUDE, 70s. A widow. Tough old broad with a soft underbelly.
CHARL, 40-ish. Ruth’s daughter and a widowed single mom.
ED, 40-ish. Owner/Manager of recently closed bowling alley. Married, but separated.
TEDDY, 13. Charl’s son.
Note: The roles of MAUDE and CHARL have been cast.

Note: ideally, both roles can play instruments as described above, however, we may choose to have a band to play the instruments instead, so facility with the instruments is optional.

Matilda Wormwood, (female, 6-10) An imaginative girl who is clever and wise far beyond her years. She has a thirst for learning that cannot be quenched.
Miss Agatha Trunchbull, (any gender, 35-55) The tyrannical headmistress at Matilda's school who despises children.
Miss Honey, (female, 25-40) Matilda's kindhearted teacher. She is tired of living in fear under Miss Trunchbull.
Mr. Wormwood, (male, 35-45) Matilda's uncaring father. A slimy, greedy used-car salesman.
Mrs. Wormwood, (female, 35-45) Matilda's self-absorbed, negligent mother and an amateur ballroom dancer.
Michael Wormwood, (male, 10-15) Matilda's older brother. He is not very bright and favored by their parents.
Bruce, (male, 7-14) Matilda's classmate. He is subject to extreme punishment by Miss Trunchbull.
Lavender, (female, 7-10) Matilda's classmate and friend.
Mrs. Phelps, (female, 25-45) A nice librarian.
The Escapologist, (male) A character in a story Matilda tells to Mrs. Phelps who comes to life in their imagination.
The Acrobat, (female) A character in a story Matilda tells to Mrs. Phelps who comes to life in their imagination.
Rudolpho, (male, 25-45) Mrs. Wormwood's ballroom dance partner.
Doctor, (male, 35-55) Mrs. Wormwood's Doctor when she goes into labor with Matilda.
Children’s Entertainer, (male, 25-55) A party entertainer at the start of the show.
Various other ensemble roles for adults and children ages 7-16.

MISS HOLMES RETURNS

SHERLOCK HOLMES, (30s, Female) Private Detective with a strong and quirky personality that bucks the social norms of 1880s London.
DOROTHY WATSON, (30s, Female) A female Doctor in a man’s world (and a novelst) who becomes Sherlock’s partner. A bit more socially aware than Sherlock but equally strong in her own way.
MRS. HUDSON, Sherlock’s housekeeper. She doesn’t quite understand Sherlock and Watson and their chosen lifestyles. She’s definitely more conventional than they are.
MYCROFT HOLMES, (30s-40s, Male) Brother of Sherlock. He both supports his sister and thwarts her. His personality is as quirky as hers. He works for the government and has powerful connections.
GREGORY LESTRADE, Upstanding and skilled Scotland Yard Inspector who wants to discover the truth and is willing to buck social norms to do so – within limits.
PRIYA SINGH, (30s, Female) English woman born to Indian servants. She is suspected of murder and doesn’t know where to turn for help.
ADAM WORTHINGTON, quirky teacher of literature at a prep school who shares much in common with Sherlock, but he has a very dark secret.
OLIVE MCGANN, (female) works for the Ladies’ National Association for the Repeal of the Contagious Diseases Acts
JOSEPHINE BUTLER, (female) works for the Ladies’ National Association for the Repeal of the Contagious Diseases Acts
MRS WIGGINS, (same actor plays Josephine Butler and Roberta) (female) a member of Sherlock’s “knitting circle” – a group of female informants.
ROBERTA, (same actor plays Josephine Butler and Mrs Wiggins) (female) a member of Sherlock’s “knitting circle” – a group of female informants.
AGNES, (same actor plays Olive McGann) (female) a member of Sherlock’s “knitting circle” – a group of female informants.
Note: the roles of Sherlock Holmes, Dorothy Watson, Gregory Lestrade, Mycroft Holmes and Mrs Hudson are cast.
