Equity actors and actor/singers for various principal roles in the upcoming 2014-15 Season.

Preparation
Prepare EITHER:

1) Two very brief contrasting monologues (1 min each); OR

2) One brief monologue & one song (16-32 bars) that showcases your voice & ability to command the Golden Age/Gershwin style.

Total audition: not to exceed 2 minutes.

Accompanist provided. Bring picture/resume.

Mid to late 20s. Masha’s new companion. An aspiring actor. Sexy. Many visible muscles. Adorably self-absorbed. Has a very manic disposition.

Note: The play takes place in a north London suburb. Dialects will be used.

Seeking:

Daniel:
20s. Billy’s brother. The oldest child. Very intelligent. Plagued with depression and anxiety. When not well, he hears voices that cause him to stammer when he speaks.

Sylvia:
20s. Going deaf and in the midst of adjusting to hearing less and less. Becomes Billy’s girlfriend. Because her parents are deaf, she has grown up in a deaf world and introduces Billy to it. Knowledge of sign language is a plus.



ONE SLIGHT HITCH

Early 30s. The oldest daughter. The bride. This is her wedding day (and it will not be going well). She has just published her first novel…which was almost successful.

Melanie Coleman:
Twenty-something daughter. Nurse. Very attractive…and psychotic.

Ryan:
Early 30s. The bride’s ex-boyfriend. He is a writer trying to find himself. Until seven months ago, he lived with Courtney.

Harper:
Early 30s. The groom. Logical and wealthy.

Note: The cast should be comprised of versatile singers who can navigate well in tight harmonies and who move extremely well. They must exude the style and glamour of the 1930s. Playing the piano or other musical instruments is a definite plus. Seeking actors of all ethnicities

Player 1:
30s-40s. Classic leading man. Handsome, charming, and suave. Baritone.

Player 2:
30s-40s. A classic leading lady. Glamorous. Legit soprano with mix. Must play the piano well enough to accompany herself and others for a portion of the show.

Player 3:
20s. Young leading man with a comic energy. Baritone/tenor.

Player 4:
20s. Young and pretty. Effervescent and energetic. Mezzo-soprano with strong mix/belt.

Player 5/Pianist/Singer:
30s-40s. Baritone/tenor. Accompanies the show, sings a few numbers, and has dialogue. Must be a pianist/accompanist, actor, and singer.

Note: Most actors play multiple roles. Actors must have physical stamina and be WELL-VERSED in dialects, physical comedy, and general buffoonery. Many dialects and styles will be used. Seeking fearless actors who are willing to bring fresh ideas and bold characterizations to the table.

Female. 20s-30s. This actress plays a number of men, but primarily plays Aouda, an Indian princess rescued by Fog – with whom she eventually falls in love. Seeking actors of all ethnicities.



DIVIDING THE ESTATE

20s-30s. An employee of the Gordon Estate. Young and optimistic. Attending junior college and striving to create a better life for herself. African American.

Note: The play takes place in 1969 in the Mississippi Delta and accents will be used.

Seeking:

Penny Thompkins:
Early 30s. Mixed-race. Nola and Nell’s half-sister. Raised in the Chicago projects, bright, stubborn, a reserved intellectual who has never found her place or herself.

Note: The following roles have been CAST, but have been included in an effort to give context to auditioning performers.

Tuck Turnipseed:
CAST. 30-35. White. Sheriff’s deputy. A teddy bear in a uniform, closed-minded only because he knows nothing else; lonely because no one knows him.

Clifford Barnhill:
CAST. 18. White. Student and neighbor. Polite, wounded and soulful with a searing intelligence and awareness of his surroundings.

Nell Parsons:
CAST. Mid/Late 40s. White, the oldest sister; impatient, street-smart, wisecracking. Uses her sexuality as a tool and is fiercely protective of the underdog

Nola Parsons Cobb:
CAST. Late 30s/Early 40s. White, the oldest sister. Deeply religious and maternal, gentle and soft-spoken unless she’s cornered. An innocent who absorbs the beliefs of others.
