BREAKDOWN
Premise: Chix 6 is a modern pop/rock musical about a 25-year-old female comic book artist who learns to love herself and reconnect to her dreams when her own superheroine creations come to life.
Chix 6 will be performing at LaMama with an aim for a future B'way run.
Katie: Lead role. Age 25. She also plays her 15 year old younger self. Smart, sensitive, and expressive, the epitome of contemporary “every-girl” artist. Exceedingly high belt/ mix. Excellent actor. Instantly likable and relatable.
Jay: Lead role. Age-around 29 years old. Rock bari-tenor, excellent heartthrob falsetto. Jay is Katie’s charming rocker boyfriend with undeniable talent and sex appeal. He’s that guy that girls can’t help but fall in love with, no matter what he does. Excellent actor. He should come across as authentic and not be played as a one-dimensional bad boy. Guitar player a huge plus.
Young Katie: Age 8, Katie's younger self. She is self-expressed, highly creative, confident, and full of life. CAST
Seven: Age-early to mid 30’s. In sexy “school teacher” drag, she is the short-fused, sharp-witted, type-A ball-buster. Wise-cracking with Bette Midler sass. Think Karen from Will and Grace. With her superpower of truth, she wears magic, “lie detector glasses which reveal the truth of what people are actually saying despite the words that come out of their mouths. CAST
Rise: Age-mid 20’s to 30. The misfit nerd turned cool with high-functioning autism. She has a youthful appeal and unique/edgy vocal texture. In pig-tails and school-girl drag, she is decked out with tech gadgets and gears. Able to rock out on electric violin OR any other “geeky” instrument -- e.g., accordion, any stringed instrument, recorder, melodica etc. With her mind power, she controls time and telekinetically moves objects. Lola Touche’: Age-mid 20’s to 30. High belt and high harmonies. The femme fatale of the CHIX, she is a sultry secret agent (think “Bond girl”) in steam punk (retro-futuristic, neo Victorian) accoutrement. She speaks in a foreign accent of ambiguous European descent (that switches between British, French, and sometimes Cockney). With her superpower of perspective, she is an extraordinary aerialist, who sees the big picture of every situation. CAST
Mama- Mazing: Age -35+ Fabulous, full-figured diva with a big voice and a no nonsense attitude. She owns her assuredness and shares her wisdom freely. With her superpower of confidence, she has the ability to grow in size to stomp out her foes. CAST
Blast: Age-20's to early 30's. Authentic edgy, rock belt, Mohawk-wearing punk chick with spikes, chains and chunky boots. She has a James Dean quality-- few words, but with potent, fiery communication. With her superpower of resilience, she is quick to pick herself up from any situation like a rocket, or a phoenix rising from the ashes. CAST
Principal Dancers
The nature of the dancing in this production is extremely athletic. Women MUST be comfortable with overhead lifts and Men MUST be comfortable pressing women. Both must have exceptional partnering ability and flawless technique. Think Movin’ Out, Come, Fly Away, or So You Think You Can Dance….
Lightning Girl/Sasha/ Psykasha: Lightning Girl: Age Range 20-30’s: An exquisite dancer, she is the superhero embodiment of all Katie wants to be -- powerful, confident, and self-assured and the most powerful of all the Chix. She resembles a Greek goddess with massive wings. Sings only in the chorus. Sasha: Groupie girl and president of Icon Man's street team, she's a gorgeous, buxom blonde with a svelte model physique. Dressed in revealing rock and roll clothes, her confident sexiness is disarming. Psykasha: Sasha in the Comic Book world becomes the serpentine villainess, Psykasha. CAST
Mi Roar/Thunder Boy: Age range: 20-30's. Mi Roar: Menacing virility in human form, he is a skilled adagio partner and tumbler. He dances in a mirrored villainous disguise that is both beautifully attractive and dangerously repellent, Thunder Boy: Athletic Dancer/aerialist and Lighting Girl's sidekick. He closely resembles Jay. CAST
Female Understudy:
1 female understudies to cover all of the women above. Perfect covers would be strong singers who dance and have some instrument playing ability. CAST
