Breakdown

A world premiere play by Katori Hall (The Mountaintop, Hurt Village). Gathering at their childhood island home off the coast of Georgia, four disconnected sisters meet to create a family quilt to honor their recently deceased mother. When their reunion turns into a reading of their mother's will, everyone must grapple with a troubling inheritance. Stitched with history and ritual, laughter and tears, will their “blood quilt” bind the family together or tear them apart forever?

SEEKING:

CLEMENTINE
Female, African American, 40s. The oldest sister. Sweet and sour like her namesake. The keeper of the quilting stitches, she was the one closest to Mama and the death has been hardest on her. The piece keeper.

GIO
Female, African American, 40s. The second born sister. A police officer in the midst of a fierce divorce. She is big-mouthed and doesn't hold anything in, except her vulnerability. She has a lot of baggage and uses humor to disguise a deep well of pain.

CASSAN
Female, African American, 30s. The third born sister. An army nurse married to a military man who is always on a tour of duty. Raising her daughter, Zambia, alone and struggling with being a married single-parent

AMBER
Female, African American, 20s. The youngest sister. An entertainment lawyer in Hollywood, she left her rural upbringing behind and hasn’t returned home in a long time. Smart and savvy, but not without her secrets. Mama’s favorite, she is extremely enterprising and ambitious to a fault.

ZAMBIA
Female, African American, 18+ to play 15. Cassan's teenage daughter, wildly searching for her identity in the age of TMI. She is willing to try everything and we mean everything.
