BREAKDOWN

Seeking AEA comic actor/singers of all ethnicities for the following roles:

PIPER: late teens to 20’s. The youngest of four sisters/princesses; brainy but somewhat awkward socially and naive about the world. An ardent student of math, physics and astronomy. A girl with big ideas and strong moral convictions, but fears she is “falling behind”. In an effort to win the Prince’s heart, she is transformed by magical methods into BLISS, a vacuous robotic superficial caricature storybook princess—who has a flawless exterior but with all of Piper’s previous knowledge and personality drained out of her. Actress must be able to move effortlessly between the two personas. As Piper: High Mix and contemporary sound (low G to high Gb), As Bliss: Legit, effervescent soprano (head voice to high C). Should be able to dance.

CARMELLA: late teens to 20’s. The second sister ; plus-sized in body and spirit; girly, ebullient, uninhibited, open hearted and dramatic. Loves music and the limelight. The most infatuated with Prince Devin. Should have a diva flair in her voice, but in a funny way (low F# to high F#). Should be able to dance or be a strong mover.

HOLLY: late teens to 20’s. The third sister; brash and blunt with a butch/masculine swagger. Simultaneously good natured and no-nonsense--A resourceful jack of all trades with her own strange logic. Relates more to the animal world than the human one. Alto (low F# to high Eb). Should be able to dance or be strong mover.

FAYE: late teens to 20’s; the oldest sister; dry and cynical, the years of isolation have rendered her with an air of negativity. Beneath her hard outer shell, however, is a love for her sisters that she gets in touch with throughout the show. Can slay with with a dirty look or a sarcastic jab. A natural fighter, who’s good with her trusty sword. Powerhouse pop/rock vocalist with an edge to her voice (low F# to high Eb). Should be able to dance or be a strong mover.

PRINCE DEVIN; 20’s; The prince of the Kingdom of Mirrors. Extremely good looking-Teen Idol/Pop Heartthrob. Narcissistic and egocentric—pretty, but dumb as a post. Takes himself very seriously. Vain, superficial and secretly not the heroic warrior he is touted to be. Pop tenor (low Eb to high Bb: head voice to C). Should be able to dance.

TOBY: 18-early 20’s. a young shoemaker, an artistic soul who spends his time in his artsy shop making eclectic elaborate shoes. Attractive, but in an offbeat quirky way. Sweet natured and sensitive but not a wimp—a young character actor with charm and a bright personality. Warm, animated and funny. Secretly in love with Princess Piper. Tenor (low Db to high A: head voice to D) Should be able to dance or be a strong mover.

SIR PINCUS GLIMMERMORE; 35-60’s; a magical Fairy Godfather specializing in arranging “happily ever afters”. Values physical perfection above all else. A colorful showman with great style, a big personality and a deliciously evil streak—equal parts manipulative, brilliant, sharp tongued and fabulous. Must be a strong comic actor. Tenor (low F to high A; head voice to D)

PRINCESS TAFFETA: 40’s-60; The head of Heatherfileds, a finishing school for transforming ordinary girls” into perfect princesses” so they can find their happily ever afters. A perfectly preserved storybook princess with the innocence of a child. Has stayed physically perfect by magical means for decades, but will turn back into herself, a brassy middle aged woman with a lifetime of pent up feelings. Pretty bright soprano (low Bb to high F) (As her transformed persona-a big rock belt).

THE KING-late 40’s-60; the girls’ father, The King of Minisculia. After the untimely death of his wife, he cloistered away his four young daughters to protect them from the cruelty of the world and provide them with an extensive education . Although deeply loving and devoted, the tight grip and watchful eye he has employed to keep them safe, has kept the girls from experiencing the world outside the castle and maturing into the grown women they were destined to be. Although an authority figure in the girls lives, he is not a villain-in reality, just the opposite, a tragically comic figure masking his own shameful secrets and personal insecurities. Strong baritone (low A to high E; head voice to F#)
