Thomasina Coverly
Female: 18+ actor to play ages 13 then 16. From the early 19th century. She is the young, impetuous brilliant child of Lord and Lady Croom. She is bold, talkative, and comfortable around people much older than she. Although she is a genius, she is still a child, with a delightful sense of innocence, whimsy, fun, curiosity and imagination. She’s typical 13 and then 16 year old girl, except for the fact that she is unusually privileged and is given unusual educational opportunities. She is driven not only by academic zeal but also by a desire for sexual knowledge.
Septimus Hodge
Male: 22 then 25. From the early 19th century. He is Thomasina's charming and witty tutor. An academic, he works on his own research while teaching Thomasina. He is also a bit of a rake. He has a very active sexual appetite and lusts after Lady Croom, falls in love with Thomasina and conducts a dalliance with Mrs. Chater right under her husband's nose. He manages to avoid the repercussions of his actions by employing his prodigious wit and cunning charm. He is perpetually sarcastic and the jaded which comes from his serial, cavalier seductions.

Billy Claven
Male: 18+ actor to play 17-20s. A mild mannered crippled orphan boy who has a love for Helen, and was raised by his two aunts. He has dreams of leaving the island and shattering the world. He is capable of showing intelligence, evoking empathy and delivering humor. This actor must be able to sustain a believable cripple arm and leg affliction throughout the performance.
Kate Osbourne
Female: 50s-60s. Billy’s adoptive aunt, the bolder yet more flighty of the two aging spinster sisters, she’s lived on the island all her life.
Johnnypateenmike
Male: 60s. The town gossip. Speaks with an almost auctioneer style. A constant need to hear himself talk, and always has an alternate motive for his actions.
Bartley McCormick
Male: 18+ actor to play 17-20s. Helen’s younger dim-witted brother, He is the typical obnoxious little brother type. Knows how to push everyone's buttons. Incredibly thick and annoying. .
Helen McCormick
Female: 18+ actor to play 17-20s. An uncompromising, articulate and bold girl, Billy has had a crush on her for some time. She is a foul mouthed spitfire, with a constant need to pick a fight.
BabbyBobby Bennett
Male: 30s. A local boatman and handyman whose wife died from tuberculosis; handsome and muscular. A bit rough around the edges but a melancholy, tough guy. He is extremely moody, often being kind one minute and threatening the next.
Mammy O’Dougal
Female age 90. Johnnypateenmike’s alcoholic mother, she is indomitable, sharp witted and funny.
