SEEKING

American Blues Theater is holding Equity general auditions for our upcoming 2017/2018 season. We are looking to cast mainstage roles as well as roles in our short play festival, development workshops, and readings. We are seeking actors of all backgrounds, ethnicities, ages, abilities, and gender identities.


PREPARATION

Dramatic audition – Please prepare two contrasting monologues (not to exceed 3 minutes total). Musical audition – Please prepare one monologue and 32 bars of a song (not to exceed 3 minutes total); please bring sheet music in your key for our accompanist.

Runs April 27 through May 26, 2018

Buddy Holly: Male, 18-30 – singer-songwriter and star from Lubbock, Texas. Intelligent and charismatic. Must play guitar, sing, act, and have a feel for rock ‘n’ roll.

Joe B. Mauldin: Male, 18-30 – double bass player from Lubbock, Texas. Serious young man with musical ability. Must be able to sing, act, and play the double bass.

Jerry Allison: Male, 18-30 – drummer from Lubbock, Texas. Humorous guy with musical ability. Must be able to sing, act, and play the drums.

Hipockets Duncan: Male, 18-40 – an exuberant hometown radio DJ from Lubbock, Texas. Must be able to sing and have the ability to play a musical instrument.

Maria Elena Holly: Female, 18-25 – Hispanic. Classy and well-educated. Must be able to sing and act.

J.P. Richardson (The Big Bopper): Male, 18-30 – a former DJ, he is a Texan with a larger than-life character. 6' or taller, with the ability to command the stage. His key song is “Chantilly Lace.” Must be able to act, sing, and have the ability to play a musical instrument.

Norman Petty: Male, 18-40 – a record producer from Clovis, New Mexico, with a businesslike manner and a love of making records. Must be able to sing and have the ability to play a musical instrument.

Ritchie Valens: Male, 18-25 – Hispanic. Charismatic, and has the ability to hold the stage in his own right. His key song is “La Bamba.” Must be able to act, sing, and have the ability to play a musical instrument.

Vi Petty: Female, 18-40 – the wife of Norman with a heart of gold and a good sense of humor. Vi must be able to sing and act, and have exceptional rock ‘n’ roll keyboards ability.
