BREAKDOWN

ATF 2017 BREAKDOWN

NIKOLA TESLA DROPS THE BEAT
By Nikko Benson & Benjamin Halstead
Directed by Marshall Pailet

A misunderstood genius. A rivalry for the ages. An idea that would change the world forever. Turning the volume up on one of our time’s most influential (and controversial) innovators, Nikola Tesla Drops the Beat is a theatrical experience unlike anything you’ve ever seen. A show that can only be described as “HAMILTON meets TESLA”, this epic battle of Nikola Tesla vs. Thomas Edison is set to the rhythm of a brand-new beat, in a modern and mesmerizing musical that will leave you speechless… and electrified.

OPEN: June 22, 2017
CLOSE: July 1, 2017

seeking:

NIKOLA TESLA (lead)
Male, Age: 20’s, Tenor
Unconventionally sexy, full of angst, eccentric
DJ Nikola Tesla’s fights to build the future he dreamt about, going from hopeful student to esteemed inventor to mad scientist.

ANNA / WHITE PIGEON (supporting)
Female, Age: 20s, Soprano
Eccentric, quirky, no-makeup kind of girl
Anna - She sees her own future - a full life: alongside Nikola.
Pigeon - just as ambitious at Nikola, she tries to fly to the moon and fails.

GEORGE WESTINGHOUSE (supporting)
Male, Age: 20s, bari-tenor
Goofy, excitable, bro
He’s Nikola’s business partner/rapping hype man. His big heart wants to the whole world to benefit from updated technology.

THOMAS EDISON (lead)
Male, Age: 20’s, Tenor
Sassy, charismatic, egomaniac, diva
A slick son-of-a-gun who goes from being Nikola’s hero to arch nemesis. He’s not going to let any wide-eyed dreamers steal his legacy.

ROB JOHNSON (supporting)
Male, Age: 20s, Tenor
Speedy, down-to-business, socialite
As Nikola’s PR guy, he is able to help Nikola find his audience. He works hard to herald the truth, even if that means reporting the inconvenient truths of his friends.

KAT JOHNSON (supporting)
Female, Age: 20’s, Mezzo-Soprano
Socialite, clairvoyant, Earthy, Spunky
She and Robert are a perfect yin and yang pair, but nothing can compare to the psychic connection she feels with Nikola. She wants the whole world to live its best life.

JP MORGAN (supporting)
Female, Age: 20s, Soprano belter
Kick-ass, Bombshell sexy, power-hungry dominatrix
Don’t fucking mess with her. You’ll regret it.

Male, Age: 20s, Bass-Baritone
“The Situation” from Jersey Shore, Cocky, Bro

PUPIN (supporting)

Nerdier, more nervous version of a young Tesla. Total fan-boy.

Comedic chameleons. Lots of bit parts.
