The sun becomes the moon. A drunk becomes a lord. A servant becomes a master. And two headstrong lovers become perfect companions as Delaware Shakespeare Festival returns to Rockwood Park for Shakespeare’s raucous comedy The Taming of the Shrew.

Delaware Shakespeare Festival presents The Taming of the Shrew outdoors and under the stars for three weeks this summer, from July 17-Aug. 2.

The Taming of the Shrew is directed by Samantha Bellomo, whose DSF credits include directing The Two Gentlemen of Verona (2013). The show stars Felicia Leicht as Katherina and Charlie DelMarcelle as Petruchio.

Bellomo recently won the 2014 Barrymore Award for Outstanding Choreography for “Pride & Prejudice” and People’s Light, while DelMarcelle won the 2014 Barrymore Award for Outstanding Leading Actor in a Play for his role in “I Am My Own Wife” at Theatre Horizon.

This year marks DSF’s 13th season and the 10th year at the beautiful Rockwood Park.

The Taming of the Shrew will run for 13 performances. Performances scheduled Wednesday to Saturday begin at 7:30 p.m., with gates opening at 6:15 p.m. for pre-show entertainment and picnicking. Sunday performances begin at 6 p.m. (with gates open at 4:45 p.m.). No shows are scheduled for Monday or Tuesday nights, although Tuesday, July 28 is scheduled as a make-up rain date, if needed.

General admission to the festival is $17. Tickets are $15 for seniors (65+), and active military (and their families), with identification. Student tickets are $13. Children 5 and under are free at every performance. Every Sunday is Family Night, with special activities for children 12 and under, who are admitted free with a paid adult admission.

A limited number of DSF lawn chairs will be available by reservation at each performance. These “Saved Seats” will be set up in premium locations in the first row of the “high-backed chairs” section, behind blankets and low-backed chairs. Reservations can be made on the DSF website for $35/ticket.

All other patrons should come prepared with their own chairs and/or blankets.
