Photo Flash: Ohlook Performing Arts Center presents 2nd Annual 24 Hour Musical SPRING AWAKENING

Ohlook Performing Arts Center (OPAC), Grapevine, TX, is proud to announce that they will be producing their 2nd Annual 24 Hour Musical with the rock musical, Spring Awakening, April 21 - 23.

Actors aged 15 - 20 auditioned earlier this month and a cast representing students across the metroplex has been selected.

The production will be choreographed and directed by Michael Sylvester, local actor/dancer, who has toured Nationally with Todrick Hall and was most recently seen in Casa's West Side Story. Musical Direction will be by Mark Christine, a current vocal coach for Pace University in New York City.

Spring Awakening is a rock musical with music by Duncan Sheik and a book and lyrics by Steven Sater. It is based on the German play Spring Awakening (1891) by Frank Wedekind. Set in late-19th-century Germany, the musical tells the story of teenagers discovering the inner and outer tumult of teenage sexuality. It is mature in content and language.

Heather Biddle, Ohlook's Education Director, says, "At Ohlook we are always trying to provide unique and boundary pushing opportunities for our students. We are so excited for this cast to have the chance to work with Mikey and Mark on this innovative and thought provoking piece."

Ohlook's Artistic Director, Jill Blalock Lord adds, "Ohlook took this piece to AACT Nationals 4 years ago with mostly adults playing the major roles. I am excited to explore it now with actors closer to the age of the original characters. Every time I read this work I am amazed that these issues, written about in 1891 by Wedekind, are still issues that are being dealt with by teens today.

The cast will begin rehearsals Friday, April 21 at 6pm and have their first performance Sunday, April 23 at 5pm, with a second performance at 8pm. The performances will be fully staged, costumed and performed off book. Tickets are $15 but seating is limited. Tickets and more information is available at www.ohlookperform.com.

Ohlook Performing Arts Center is a 501c3 organization that came on the scene in 2002 to bring the fine arts to the DFW are through classes, workshops, and theatrical performances for children and adults. In the past 14 years it has produced over 200 productions and now includes an International Award winning Adult Company in addition to it's National Award winning Student Company.
