The new creation of María Pagés is not a review of the famous character played many times Merimee. Here the dancer and choreographer Spanish builds a story about a woman who stands strong, clear and forceful, to express the reality facing; a woman who wants to be the voice of all women, without fear or connotations built by the male gaze.
That voluptuous character Bizet wrap with its fascinating music serves as a starting point for this show that it aims to disarm the stereotypes created, maintained and inculcated over the centuries, silencing the essence of the real woman. Choreographic reflection claims life, pleasure, autonomy, freedom and happiness as fundamental rights of every human being. The work was premiered at the Teatro Calderón of Valladolid on October 3, 2014 and has music by Georges Bizet, Sebastián Iradier, Ruben Levaniegos, Sergio Menem, David Moñiz and Maria Pagés.
María Pagés was born in Seville. It is recognized internationally for her personal aesthetic concept of flamenco, as understood as something unlimited, winning a place in the panorama of world dance.
