Goodspeed Musicals' 2015 Audition Intensive -

July 31 - August 2, 2015



Goodspeed’s Audition Intensive is a unique and comprehensive program offering invaluable training and insider tips for the aspiring musical theatre college student. The program will prepare high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors for college musical theatre entrance auditions. Students will receive individualized monologue and song coaching, participate in group exercises, learn about Goodspeed Musicals, and engage in discussions covering all aspects of the college audition process. Students will also participate in mock auditions and a panel discussion, exposing them to renowned professors and industry professionals. Faculty members for 2015 include William Wesbrooks, Director of Vocal Performance at NYU Steinhardt, and Aubrey Berg, Chair of the Musical Theatre Department at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.

PLEASE INCLUDE WITH APPLICATION:

• A paragraph explaining why you are interested in the Audition Intensive program

• A resumé listing your theatrical and music experience

• A headshot or photograph clearly showing your face

• A link to a short video of the applicant performing 16 bars of one ballad and 16 bars of one up-tempo musical theatre song in an email or mail a DVD copy. The video does not need to be professionally produced and cell phone videos are acceptable.

• The tuition payment of $350 in the form of a check payable to “The Goodspeed Opera House Foundation.” If you prefer to pay by credit card, please contact Kate at 860.873.8664, x373.



*Note: If you are not accepted, your tuition will be refunded in full. In all other cases, the tuition payment is non-refundable.

2015 Teaching Artists



AUBREY BERG has headed the musical theatre program at College Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati for the past twenty-¬eight years. He has directed extensively for both professional and educational theatres, with productions ranging from the classics to new plays, from musical theatre to dramatic works. Musicals he has staged include West Side Story, Oklahoma!, Sweet Charity, Cabaret, Chicago, Babes in Arms, Into the Woods, Evita, Hair, A Chorus Line, The Pirates of Penzance, My One and Only, Assassins, Cyrano, Passion, Chess, Godspell and Little Me. Other productions include such works as Romeo and Juliet, Othello, Two Gentlemen of Verona, Tartuffe, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, The Crucible, Electra and Vinegar Tom. He holds a PhD in Theatre Arts from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, and has studied at the Bristol Old Vic, the British Drama League and the British Council at Stratford-¬upon-¬Avon. He is the first holder of the Patricia A. Corbett Distinguished Chair of Musical Theatre at CCM and served as Artistic Director of its award winning summer repertory, Hot Summer Nights, for seven years. His students can be seen on Broadway, Off-¬Broadway and in national and international tours. In 2010, he received the League of Cincinnati Theatres’ Continuing Achievement Award and was inducted into the CEA Hall of Fame.



WILLIAM WESBROOKS University training in psychology, music, and theatre set the stage for William Wesbrooks’ career in professional theatre, which has spanned acting, singing, directing, playwriting, and teaching. Since 2001 his work has been concentrated at New York University where he is the Director of the Program in Vocal Performance in the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. As a Music Associate Professor he oversees a program that trains singers at the bachelors, masters, advanced certificate, and doctoral levels for careers as both performing artists in both music theatre and opera.



NYU directing credits include Carousel, The Most Happy Fella’, Fiorello!, Candide, A Little Night Music, 110 in the Shade, Into the Woods, Ragtime, Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris, Hansel & Gretel, Hand Across the Sea, Street Scene, The Pirates of Penzance, and The Merry Widow as well as the gala performance of King David at which the authors – Alan Menken and Sir Tim Rice – were inducted into NYU’s Music Theatre Hall of Fame.

Professional directing credits include Tovah Feldshuh’s critically acclaimed off-Broadway play, Tallulah, Hallelujah! (named by USA Today as one of the “Ten Best Productions” of the year 2000), the off-Broadway premier of The Water Coolers, Gypsy starring Dolores Gray, and Shenandoah starring John Raitt. He staged the musical numbers for Sarah Miles’ one-woman show, SHEBA, and has directed national tours of Brigadoon, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, The King and I, Meet Me in St. Louis, The Sound of Music, and West Side Story. Regional credits include My Fair Lady, Peter Pan, Private Lives, The Mikado, The Secret Garden, A Wonderful Life (named “best musical” and “best director” by the Richmond Times-Dispatch), and The Pirates of Penzance (named “best musical” by the Richmond Times-Dispatch). International credits include My One and Only starring Jodi Benson (Cologne, Berlin, Munich, Vienna) and The Fantasticks! for La Fenice in Venice, Italy.



Mr. Wesbrooks is a member of The Dramatists Guild, The Society of Directors and Choreographers, and Actors Equity Association. Raised in southern New Mexico under western skies, and having lived life in the Big Apple for the past forty years, he now happily, and more quietly, divides his time between New York City and his home in Santa Fe.
